  • Winter car oiling and WAX durability.

I am going to wax my car today, (some of you may have read my other thread) and, I have an appointment at Rust Check to my my car sprayed next Tuesday. As anyone who has used Rust Check knows, there always is some over spray of the oil onto body panels. I have never really thought about this, but does the Rust Check oil break down the wax on the car? When I get home, can I just wipe it off using some spray wax, and all of my wax work today will be okay??
    Thanks,
    Dianne

I've never used a product of this nature, don't see winter or anything like it around here but I think it would be best to wash your car when you take it home to remove anything instead of wiping it off with a spray wax.

Lucky!!!! I'd be happy to send you a box of snow this winter.

I think I would go with a wash too. It's hard to tell what type of chemical they use. I'd hate to leave it on the paint anyway.

        Dianne,

Yes some oil does get on your paint, you will need to wash the car one time with Dawn dish washing soap, and yes this will strip your wax off. If you use regular car washing soap it will just smear the oil around and make a bigger mess.

Wash and then rewax the areas were the oil was.

Wash the car as you normally would do, then after wipe the over spray areas down with 91% isopropyl alcohol.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

What I do is a complete detail a few weeks after the oil spray. The first wash ruins a mitt, so I use a cheap/old one.

I'd head for a good coin-op wash and wash the whole vehicle with their soap and rinse and follow it immediately with a good car shampoo. Then use a quality tar remover, next a complete wax with a cleaner/wax followed by #16 if that what you use for a LSP.

All in all it sounds like and "nasty process". I've lived with ice and snow my whole life. The last vehicle that I had rustproofed was a 1981 Chevy Blazer.

I think that it is a whole lot better to wash cars in the winter even if it is only a couple times a month.
