  • What if A New Paint is waxed/sealed?

    Hi all,
After visiting detailing forums for a while, I got a message that Brand New Paint Jobs/Brand New cars immediately produced from the factory can't be waxed/sealed by sealent for about 30-60 days. Is that true? So, what will be the problem/effect if we do wax/seal the fresh paint.
In my country, i've seen many people at Paint shops doing wet-sanding, compounding with rotary, polishing with rotary to the newly re-sprayed cars. For wax/sealant, I'm not sure whether they do or not. So, Is it OK to compound/polish the new paint job? Only wax/sealant matters? Please help idiots like me to understand the question Why?

    Thanks,
    HK77

In a paint process there are different solvents and additives that are not needed once the paint process is completed, they are only used when painting. So they are meant to evaporate off the surface.

Wax/sealants seal the surface, it makes a coat over the paint that contain these solvents and additives from evaporating

You can actually wax a car as it's rolling off the factory assembly line (and most of the time they do) as they are baked at high heats. A body shop on the other hand cannot bake paints that hot so those paint jobs need to be allowed to out-gas.

You can compound, polish, etc. fresh paint but you cannot wax or seal the paint for 60 to 90 days (if this is coming out of a body shop).

Re: What if A New Paint is waxed/sealed?

Thank you all guys for giving me an idea why. That's why MOL is always on top of all detailing forums. So, is it still true to single paint finishes or only to clear coat finishes? From the above posts, I think it will be true to all body shop paints, right? Quite strange, none of the body shops in my poor country tell the customers not to wax/seal the paint after coming out from body shop. May be they don't know or they don't care.

          Thanks All

It's true for all types of fresh paint.
