    Surface Preparation Products

    Hi Guys

    I'm a bit confused with the Surface Prep products mostly in the consumer range.

    If I could get my hands on M105 I would, but not available. So I currently have Clay kit, DC Paint Cleaner and Scratch X as my cleaners.

    I have the parents daily driver for the next month so can leave my car garaged and spend a bit of time on it getting it restored. It's got some slightly faded panels, and small scratching and swirls, 1990 and red.

    I'll be working by hand and time isn't an issue. Just want to do it right with what i've got. Do all three products offer different solutions or would all 3 just be overkill? and in which order would they be used.

    Hopefully by Christmas i'll be able to invest in a DA and learn a bit more.

    Well your process your look like this:
    Wash
    Clay
    DC Paint Cleaner / ScratchX
    Pure Polish (optional)
    Wax

    You can use DC Paint Cleaner on most of the panels in the car and on those panels that have a isolated defect (isolated scratch / paint etching/water spots) then you can use on those spots ScratchX

        Red Baron, follow the process outlined above by Francis and your parents' car will look 100% better.

        Elsewhere in the forum, Mike Phillips offers this instruction on applying DC1: "work a small section at at time, about a foot squared or so and then wipe off after working the product over the surface. Don't let the product dry. Then move on to a new section and overlap into the previous section. Continue doing this until you have gone over all the paint."

          You can get a small bottle of M105 at Auto Detailing Solutions.

            Anyone correct me if I'm wrong but shouldn't DC1 NOT be used with a machine?

              Not sure about the DC1 with the machine or not, so I'm not commenting on that.

              But with the polish step, you can probably head to a local auto parts store and pick up DC 2, which is a paint polish. The polish should be applied after the cleaning step (so after DC1 or ScrtachX). Polish will help add the deep rich color back into the finish and since time isn't a problem and you want to do it right I say polish it as well.

              Just remember polish is like the cleaners, work a small section at a time and don't let it dry. Keep us posted on the final results.

                DC1 could be used with a PC, but probably not the best product to choose.
