hey everyone i need some info on a problem i have with my 07 accord. so when i put the car into drive for the first time after sitting for a while and then i go to break the breaks click. (i dunno if u guys actually understood it i hope you did.) its not one click it like clicks twice. i have taken it to the dealer and they tell me thats what the car is going to do because the breaks are "floating". my dad has worked on cars in a long time and from what i know breaks dont "float". i dunno if its just because im a female but it seems to get louder everyday or its just me. if u guys can help me that would be awesome! thanks

Re: 2007 honda accord
How many miles on the car? Is it still under warranty? If it is under warranty bring it to another Honda dealer I am sure there many in the area and see what they say. Tell them you are scared to drive the car and they need to reslove the issue.

Re: 2007 honda accord
I know the answer to this question, but I can't seem to put it into words for anyone(including myself) can understand
Basically, "floating Brakes" do exist. But it's very doubtful that your Honda has them. This is very common on motorcycles and racing cars.
Take it to another dealership in your area, or a reputable shop as Mike suggested. You're located in Miami, there has to be 15 other Honda dealerships close to you

I did a quick yahoo search on floating brakes. Here is what I found this may help explain the idea of floating breaks.
Single Piston Floating Calipers are the most popular and also least costly to manufacture and service. A floating caliper "floats" or moves in a track in its support so that it can center itself over the rotor. As you apply brake pressure, the hydraulic fluid pushes in two directions. It forces the piston against the inner pad, which in turn pushes against the rotor. It also pushes the caliper in the opposite direction against the outer pad, pressing it against the other side of the rotor. Floating calipers are also available on some vehicles with two pistons mounted on the same side. Two piston floating calipers are found on more expensive cars and can provide an improved braking "feel".
I hope this helps explain the concept of floating brakes/calipers I will look further reason for the clicking.

Re: 2007 honda accord
thanks to everyone who answered. right now my car is actually in the shop because someone hit me from the rear. my trunk is in my trunk...i asked the shop to look at the brakes and not fix them because the car is under warranty. and to answer some people when i first took the car to the shop with this problem they told me that all new honda have the clicking noise, but when i asked my friend that has a new honda if they have the same problem she told me no. so once i get my car back im going straight to the dealership because 1 i have to do an oil change and 2 i want the clicking noise gone.. its extremely annoying!
thanks again to everyone who answered me.

Re: 2007 honda accord
I work at a Honda dealership and so I hear people bringing their Accord's in for this issue all the time. It's very simple. When you go back for example your brake pads get shifted to the top of the caliper and when you put it in "d" to go forward your pads being seated against the top of the caliper now shift downward towards the bottom of the caliper. You may ask, "what! my pads are loose inside the caliper...?" well they aren't "loose" but they do have some play and its enough to make the clicking noise when they shift directions. Its a simple design issue nothing else. Earlier model Accords didn't have this issue. I have a 2008 Accord and it doesn't have this issue either. I believe it was simply the 2006-07 Accord's that had this issue. You can go to the Honda dealer but it might be a waste of time because they will tell you everything I just said. It's nothing they can do about it, thats how Honda designed the calipers/pads for that year Accord. Hope this helps.

Re: 2007 honda accord
Sorry to hear about the accident. Glad you are okay. I would get a second opinion of the brakes. I have a hard time believing that this was a issue for 2 years. There seems there has to b e a fix for this problem. Hope the trunk and brakes are fixed to your satisfaction.
