My Polishing Pad is alive!

I used it to apply MPPP a couple weeks ago, I left it in my garage in a open Ziplock bag and this is how I found it today.
This has never happened to me before with other Meguiars products, but it has been humid lately though.
I can treat fungical diseases in humans, but I don´t know what to do with this pad, any sugestions?

I never seal the bags, I always use the ones the pads came in and cut the top open so I can reuse the bag.

I have a friend who sealed his in a ziplock bag and had the same problem. I think it traps moisture and other things in the sealed bag.

Can it be cleaned with a simple wash ?

Ya know while recently cleaning out my garage I found an older jar of #26 (it was the plastic one so not that old) that I had just thrown the applicator pad in and not bothered to put it in it's specail plastic holder. The same thing happened, the pad grew cultures of who knows what.

I would say throw it out because you don't really know whats growing in there.

Must be the high humidity. You can wash the pad in a mix of soap and a little bleach. That should remove the mold or mildew. Once removed, rinse thoroughly in clean water, wrap the pad in a towel, squeeze out the excess water and air dry the pad. Since the humidity is so high, you may want to store your pads loosely wrapped in dry cotton towels.

So, what is the best way to store this pads? I use ziploc for all my pads. I store them in my basement after used.

Should we let the pads dried first and store them in the ziploc?

One of my pad has some fungus found on the velco.

Also, shall we use mild soap to wash the pads because some of my pads are getting very dirty and I do not want to throw them away. However, I am concerned washing will decrease the life of the velco backing.

2. Air dry the pad's.
3. Put the pad's in a protective cover or plastic bag.

I haven't had a problem with the pad's after I washed them. And did it the way I have on here.

Would you please explore your answers / suggestions a little bit more:

1. Which household detegent would you recommend to wash the pads? Can I use baby shampoo instead?

2. How long did you soak them into the soap water? Cold or warm water?

3. How did you remove the dirt embedded in the pads?

4. Should I place the velco side of the pad sitting on the ground while drying or vice versa?

I know I am asking some stupid questions but I just want to make sure my pads can last longer.

I don't wash my pads. I dedicate specific pads to specific products. I roll the used pad in a cotton towel and squeeze out any excess product when I'm done with it and place them in an open plastic bag in the garage. My garage is quite dry and the pads dry quickly. I don't have the high humidity that manueljlg has so I've not seen any mold or mildew.

When I reuse the pad I tap the dry powder out and spritz the pad lightly with QD and I'm ready to go.

I've not had any pad failures using this method. The only pads that I've had separate from the backing were those that I washed.

I don't use soap for my pad's. I just use plan water. I wring the
pad with my finger's to get the remaining product out of the pad. When I air dry them I put the velcro facing up.

Just to add...

Meguiar's does not recommend the washing of their buffing pads.

Now, with that said, even after using the pad with a product, the pad should be left to dry before being put away. If there is any mositure left in the pad, and it is placed in a sealed bag, you will get condensation inside of the bag, leading to various problems.
