Now, with that said, even after using the pad with a product, the pad should be left to dry before being put away. If there is any mositure left in the pad, and it is placed in a sealed bag, you will get condesation inside of the bag, leading to various problems.

Oh no, I should open all my bags tonite after work. I ziplock all the pads after use because I do not want any dirts go into the pads.

Any chemical effects such as posioning if I leave those "mist" pads drying in the basement?

Before re-using the pads, shall we use a toothbrush to brush out all the residues before apply the wax?

Here is a thread I saw on here about not washing Meguiar's pad's.
      ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Meguiar's does not recommend washing any of our foam buffing pads either by hand or by machine.

      Meguiar's recommends,

      * Tapping them when they are dry to knock loose any dried product
      * Holding an absorbent terry cloth towel into them when they are wet to absorb excess product out of them.
      * Storing them wet in a zip-lock bag for re-use later

Hi all, I also took the big PC plunge. I'm starting a detailing business but we can't get PC's here in Australia, even through Meguiars Australia.

Sooooo....I contacted the good folks in California and placed a $500 order (ouch) for two G100's plus pads and products. Can't wait for them to arrive! Those pads will be smokin'!

So I've been following this post carefully so I can look after my pads correctly....and now I'm confused with conflicting statements.

The only conclusion I can draw that has concensus is that you shouldn't wash them. But how do you clean them?

And how do you store them? Wet or dry? Closed ziplock-bag or open?

Is there a definitive Meguiars answer?

I use Murpheys Oil Soap to wash my pads (Lake Country). I mix the Murpheys 50/50 with water in a spray bottle and soak the pads with the mixture. Then I knead them around to work the soap into the pad and mix in in with the product remaining in the pad. Then I take the garden hose and using a strong stream of water, blast the soap/product residue out. Then I either "shake dry" the pads by hand or after letting most of the water drain out on it's own, put them back on the PC and spin them at a medium setting to spin the magority of the remaining water out.

For complete drying, I usualy set them on a chicken wire 'tray' and cover them with a towel to prevent dust/dirt contamination.

I prefer the Murpheys Soap because it really seems to cut through the product in the pads, and that it rinses clear so much easier than any other soap. It also seem NOT to affect the glue holding the pads together.

I roll my pads in a towel and squeeze out the excess product. I then put the pad in an open Ziploc bag and leave it unsealed in a dry place. The pads dry overnight.

Before reusing the pad again I tap it to dislodge any dried product and spritz it with a small shot of QD and it's ready to go.

I have been doing this since 1995 and still have some pads in service from that era. The only pads I've ever lost were due to my attempts at washing them. The glue failed.

as we can see everyone have its own technic... and every technic do the same

instead i think we should make a list of DONT'S for our pads, like

                1. do not machine wash or machine dry
                2. do not use a strong soap or solvent
                3. do not store wet in closed bags
                4. do not store them without cleaning first

                what else guys... girls...

I can treat fungical diseases in humans, but I don´t know what to do with this pad, any sugestions?

Sorry about the pics, they were taken with my cel phone since my camera is broken.

Had one too. Just found out today when I tried to wash the pads I used and stored in a closed ziplock since christmas. First time for me too! BTW, I used the pad w/ M09

Re: My Polishing Pad is alive!

I just wash them with water and dry them out by spinning them on the rotary and hitting them with compressed air. I toss them in a rubber maid container for storage and wash them before I use them again.

I always washed them w/ dawn then dry them in the garage in plastic bags w/ holes on bottom for several days. No problems until now. I left them in ziploc for 2 wks or so. Got to be careful now.

can i cross breed it with the 3m ones?

Anyway, had the same issue last year. mold on my 8" pads.. I just dip it in warm water diluted with Dettol for few hours. Ran it under the tap. Squeeze off the excess and voila, we back in "bidnes" (words too often used by my ABC cousin).

Moisture + dark area = mold. One of the above has to be taken out of the mix, and it is most likely going to have to be the "wet" pads. Either dry the pads out or leave the bag open.
