  • How can I tell if I need to wax?

Before I became car crazy, I would wax my cars every six months or whenever water quit beading up on them. Since I joined this forum and started maintaining my cars the way I should, I am not sure if they will ever not bead water. In April I did a full detail job on my 2007 Lucerne, wash, clay, M80 w/G100, & NXT 2.0. Since then I have washed w/GC shampoo when needed followed w/UQD. If it is just dusty I use the California Duster on it followed w/UQD. It still looks as good as the day I detailed it & water runs off of it when I wash it, like water off of a duck's back. My concern is that the wax may go away & the UQD is giving me the illusion it is protected when it is not. Am I just being paranoid or am I looking for a reason to wax my car again?

If they're daily drivers being washed once a week or every other week then once a month can't hurt...

Well, as you dry, you may notice the towell dragging a bit more. Also, the QD/UQD may not go on as easily, seem not to spread as well. Those can be signs of time to wax. Also the water not sheeting as nicely.

If your car is garaged, you certainly can get a longer life, also if not a daily driver.

I have the exact same problem. I wash mine every week, usually Sundays after work. I also drive 340 miles a week including being parked in downtown, and 2 days right next to the ocean. I wax mine every 2 months, I think that may be excessive but this last one someone decided to dump an entire Coke on my car which was really fun.
