  • 1994 paint looks good but I want it better

    Hello,
I'm new here and I have a couple of question. I have a 1994 Chevy C1500. The paint still has a good deep gloss, but I think it can be better. I do have some deep scratches, and bird do do etching. What I was going to do is using prep to get the wax off, buff it, then wax it back. Is this what you would do?

If so, what buffing compound, and wax should I use? If not what do you suggest?

Here's some pictures for you guys to looks at.

If you're working by hand then the easiest way to remove scratches by hand and prepare the paint for wax is with our new M105 Ultra Cut Compound.

I will be working with a orbital buffer. The hand thing is to much work. Ha Ha
What polish do I use with a buffer?

For an orbital, you can try Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, it will do some light cleaning.

The problem you have is orbital polishers are not effective at removing paint because they're too gentle in their action and typically clear coat paints tend to be pretty hard, at least compared to traditional lacquer and enamel paints and the way you remove swirls and scratches is you remove a little paint surrounding the swirls and scratches and in essence level the paint.

Rotary vs DA Polisher vs Traditional Orbital Buffer

Please explain Pros/Cons between Rotary and Orbital Buffers

If you read this forum enough you'll find that many people come here looking for help removing swirls, scratches and etching out of their car car's finish and what they learn is that clear coat paints are hard to work on. They can last a long time but that doesn't mean they will look good for a long time, it has to do with what the resin is made out of and this resin or paint just isn't very user friendly.

This is why tools like the DA Polisher have become so popular, they are a zillion times more effective than a traditional orbital buffer but drastically safer than a rotary buffer.

You can use M105 by hand or a rotary buffer.

Using a rotary buffer is a lot of work as it's not a "one step operation"
