    Hi All-

I've recently bought a new car, and I've become somewhat fanatical about keeping it looking at its best. One problem I have, is that the car is parked ungaraged - pretty well out in the elements.

In order to protect it, I'm constantly washing/polishing/waxing - even after virtually every drive. (OK maybe the waxing gets done every 4 weeks or so)

Furthermore, the car is covered by a really good car cover (dupont Tyvek Olyfin style) which supposedly cuts out 99% of all UV.

My question is this - can I expect, with an almost excessive amount of car-care (wash wash wash, wax wax wax) that the car will lose its lustre over the coming years?.. Is there anything else I should be doing?

The car is covered 24/7 unless I'm driving it. It's not a daily driver, and only really gets taken out for a few hours each weekend.

Thanks all, appreciate any advice/info you can provide.

    Hi kryten2001,

Because modern paint is very durable, with the things you're doing, you paint should last as long as you own the car.

I've seen clear coats on daily drivers with no maintenance easily last 10 and 15 years. Mind you, without proper polishing waxing, they don't look good, but they are still intact. That's the durability feature/benefit of modern paint technology.

I always like to point out there is a big difference between, Looking Good and Lasting a long time and that often times people confuse them to be the same thing, which they're not.

      Thanks a lot Mike.

I'm still eagerly awaiting NXT down here in Australia... Our local numpties (who are Merguiars biggest retailer BTW), haven't even heard of the stuff..

      GC will be fine though!..

      Cheers.
