  • How often for scratch remover?

So basically what the title says, how often is too often for scratch remover to be used. I am talking about scratch x or number 9 treatment over large areas to remove slight swirling. It seems not matter what I try I can't avoid them.

Also from what I understand, #9 is less aggressive than scratch x when applied by hand. Is this so?

    Hi automag,

Yes, #9 is less aggressive when applied by hand.

As far as your question, "How often can I use a swirl and scratch remover before I have removed too much paint or gone through the clear coat and into the basecoat?"

The answer is in most cases, as often as you need to. These two products remove so little paint, that it's safe to use them often if needed.

Now if your car's clear coat is exceedingly thin, for example you purchased a used car and some gorilla of a detailer compounded the hood until only a whisper thin layer of clear remains, then in this situation, it is possible to rub through the clear and expose the basecoat. But... this would happen with company's swirl and scratch remover, not just Meguiar's.

If you are confident that your car's finish is still intact and in has not been abused by someone else previously, then you really don't have to worry about over-using these products.

      Thanks mike.

I am pretty confident the finish is well intact. I purchased it new last year.

Its just that its a daily driver, outdoors all the time, in El Paso's sun and dust. It seems nearly impossible to keep it swirl free.
