  • Wheel Care

Do you care for the back of your wheels?

    1) Do you wash and wipe dry the back of the wheel during each car wash?

    2) Do you polish the back wheel flange?

    3) Will you remind the tire shop not to lay your wheels on the floor to prevent scratches on the wheel flange?

    Thanks for your input!

        ~One man’s opinion / observations~

Do you care for the back of your wheels? Yes

        1) Do you wash and wipe dry the back of the wheel during each car wash? Yes

        2) Do you polish the back wheel flange? Only on a concourse vehicle

        3) Will you remind the tire shop not to lay your wheels on the floor to prevent scratches on the wheel flange? Yes

Tools used: 4-Finger lambskin cleaning mitt, horsehair wheel brush, Wheel Scrubber Brush for the back of the wheels. (All Groit’s Garage) and Wheel Wax (polymer wheel protection) for the wheel surface

        ~Hope this helps~

I do clean the backside of my rims but not the tires. When I get a wash mitt replaced, it gets assigned to wheel duty. I'm able to fit my hand between the "spokes" and reach behind the wheel. I've just picked up some metal polish and plan on taking my wheels off to polish them up inside and out.

Once I start doing this on the side, I'll probably wash the inside of the rim with a brush or mitt if I can reach. I doubt I'll be taking off the wheel.

George, you must be using one of the non-clearcoated wheels, right? But I guess it's quite common to have minor scratches on the wheel lip/flange, especially on low profile tyres.
