  • How do I clean this

I'm going to be ordering a bunch of detailing supplies today or Monday so I can detail all of our cars while i'm on vacation the week of the 22nd.
On our 2004 Silverado the body side moulding is severly discolored/stained.

What can I use to clean this, it supposed to be white

Try the magic eraser. By the way your pics are way to large.

That discoloration may be sun damage. If it doesn't get "white" with scrubbing, you may need to replace the piece(s).

Is that painted plastic, or actually white plastic?

Is that plastic? If so I would start with APC and a magic eraser.

It feels like plastic to me, but it soft.

Not painted, it's actually white plastic.

When I order supplies I was going to order APC for the interior anyways, so I guess I can try that with a magic eraser.
I'm not sure I can mess it up anymore than it is already. If it doesn't come clean I guess I'll have to replace them

Re: How do I clean this

As others have suggested APC or APC+ with a good suitable brush. Be careful to not let the cleaner dry on the paint while you are cleaning, as it could stain, especially if your using it at a low dilution rate.
You could also try a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner or a combination of the two. Either way follow up with a wax.
Just in case you can’t get it to look right.... Is the truck still under warranty?

A good friend of mine had that and the dealership agreed to replace them under warranty. Any chance you're still covered?

I think they are discolored from the sun. It would not hurt to try to clean them with apc, or the magic eraser. Let us know how it turns out.

My Mustang has the same problem. The moldings are molded in white, not painted. I can generally clean it pretty well with clay first then some of the deep crystal paint cleaner. I'm going to try a magic eraser today and I let you know how it turns out.

edit: magic eraser didn't really do much on my car

                          No, it's out of warranty.

I'll keep you guy's posted with before and after pic's once I get on the truck for a good detailing.
Same with the daily drivers. Even though they're only Kia's, I'm hoping for some good, heck maybe even great results.

When I told my wife how much the supplies were gonna cost she said "that's all" (I might have to order more stuff now)

Bummer on the warranty. As for what to try, do you happen to have any paint-safe solvents?

I've seen those things up close and personal and remember it being quite nasty. I would think a solvent would be the starting point to break it up, and then from there some pain-staking and very tedious polishing....!

One of my neighbors has that car and has the same problem. He asked me to try something to get it back to normal, but he didn't want me using anything strong. The strongest thing I used was APC + at 10:1 and that did nothing. If he would have let me use something harsher I would go to APC 4:1 then maybe body solvent.
