On my new car, the dealer applied a wax protectant, something with ****** if I understood correctly. They claim it will last up to five years, with only a couple of waxes per year. Is there a Meguiars product that I could use to wax the car? Also, the car is Black, so I am washing it at a hand car wash a couple of times per week...can a car be washed too much?

Re: Dealer Applied Wax
First of all welcome to MOL!Any of the Meguiars waxes will be fine and safe to use on your car. Try NXT 2.0 or #26 liquid or Gold Class. All of these are clearcoat safe and will not harm your vehicle. IMHO, no a car cannot be washed to much.

Re: Dealer Applied Wax
Simonize with DuPont ******? It's just a regular wax. The ****** needs to be heated for it to work, and to do so on the paint will actually make the paint melt - or something along those lines. It works wonders on the interior, but it's useless as a wax. All you really paid for is a 5 year warranty. Just wash and wax the car as you normally would and you're set!

Hi and welcome to Meguiar's Online!
As said above all Meguiar's Waxes are safe, it's a matter of choice for preference.
Watch this video, How to Wash Your Car (ShowCar Style!), it will explain how to wash your car with the least invasive method so this way you can prevent scratching your finish

Read the fine print of your warranty, or contract.
Nothing lasts for 5 years on a daily driver.
Plus if you're washing it often, washing can and will micro-abrade a coating of wax or paint sealant off the paint over time, so you're definitely going to want to take the car back and have whatever it was they applied re-applied from time to time.
The more you wash the car and the more wear & tear the car sees the more often you'll want to have the car re-treated.
If your expectations are for a show car finish all the time then you'll want to take it back even more often or find something you can apply.
Maybe you can get them to give you some? It will apply just alike a normal wax, it's probably a liquid.
Best of luck to you....

Re: Dealer Applied Wax
Ok here is my 2 cents.
The "Environmental Protection Package" offered by many dealerships is worthless.
You pay the $800 or so for the package which consists of a paint protection which supposedly lasts from 5 years to never wax your car again.
Most packages I have dealt with required a yearly re-application of paint protection, and interior protection.
If this stuff is so good (5 years to never wax again) why do you need to keep going back for reapplication every year?
And having the guts to charge $49.95 for reapplication every year? Talk about being suckered.
If you want the best results, I recommend that you ask the dealership not detail your car, and find a trust worthy detailer to PROPERLY do it for you.
Better yet, if you are able--DO IT YOURSELF!
If you upkeep the paint on the car, regularly, and with high quality products, you will save $899 and not have to keep visiting your dealership for yearly re-applications.
I have a repeat customer who recently purchased a 2008 Honda Civic Si, and had me detail it when he took delivery, and you would not beleive what I took off it, eventhough it was on the showroom floor!
