  • Can I do this with NXT Spray Wax

OH My God, I just waxed my car 2 days ago and it was raining this morning. As a result, there were some dried water spots everywhere on my paint.

I am so tired and I don't want to wax the car again today or tomorrow or this weekend. The question is: Can I just use the NXT spray wax to have a quick instant "Clean-up" on the dirty paint surface? There are some white water spots on the paint surface.

I believe I will spray some wax on the pads and let it sit for 1/2 hours, then wipe off with the MF towel.

    OR

Should I just leave the dirt on my paint and wait until the next car wash?

    Please advise.

I would use quick detailer instead of the wax. You haven't driven the car in the rain right?

Yes, this morning when I drove to work.

If it was raining when you left...I am afraid you need to rewash.

Thanks. This is what I think.

To be on the safe side, I think rdarwa is correct.

It's possible you could use a quick detailer, without seeing the car it's hard to say, but this is definitely not a job for a spray wax.

              Mike,

On your comment that you need to look at the condition of the 'dirty-ness' before assessing whether QD is sufficient vs a complete wash, just like to know how you determine this. In Malaysia, it can rain almost everyday for weeks on end...and I cannot be washing my car every day. Currently I was my car twice a week (sometimes 3 when the dirtiness get unbearable). Was actually thinking about using QD in between my washes. My car is deep black and I do have a worry that cleaning without loads of suds might create surface, hairline scratches ad swirls. What do you think?

                Hi S60slipstream,

It really comes down to three things,

                1) Common sense
                2) Experience
                3) Your car care goals

When you look at your cars finish, does it look dirty? or does it have a light coating of dust? If it looks dirty, then it probably is and to use a quick detailer may risk instilling scratches. If it looks like light dust, then you're probably safe to remove it with a quick detailer.

If it was light dust, but has rained on your car's finish, then the light dust is no longer light dust, but is now a dirt film.

Quick detailers are not intended to remove dirt films without scratching. You will have to make the decision whether or not to use a quick detailer.

One other factor that effects everyone's decision and that's what are you working on? Is is your baby, or your work truck? I'll use a quick detailer on my old 1973 Blazer with the $800.00 Maaco paint job that is thin in some that areas when has more than a light coating of dust because it's not perfect to start with and I have no plans on trying to make it perfect. The quick detailer will remove the dust/dirt and restore s just detailed look without the hassle of washing the truck. If our black 04 Pilot had the same dirt on it, I would wash it first because it has a scratch-sensitive clear coat that shows every swirl and scratch and because it's in great shape and I want to keep it that way.

                Does that make sense?

                  Makes perfect sense Mike.

First of all, the rain we get here is really "one of a kind". When it rains, boy, it REALLY rains. Whether there is dust on one's car or not, when it rains, nothing is spared. Any layer of dirt IS a dirt film. A complete wash is definitely called for based on the guidelines you have provided.

I am very proud about the paint jobs on my cars, and I certainly will not choose to QD them when they always get dirty after being driven in the rain. Only good thing is that at least we have an abundance of water here for me to wash my car more often....

It also depends on which area you are in, and how often it rains. If you're in an industrial area, it's very lightly that a dirt film can be built up within 15 mins. of rain. Also, if it didn't rain for a week, the next time it rains, it will be a nasty one. To play safe, I never QD my car. It's either I wash it, or I leave it.

Because of my car is always parking without shade, I was QD my car without washing it by water and it creates a lot of hair line scratch all over my car body

Of course you have to determine if you need a wash or QD. If I determined that I need to QD I always use a CD first THEN proceed with the QD. Of course sometimes I'm just looking for a reason so that I can wash her again, nothing beats a freshly washed car.
