  • Finally i got my civic-Help needed to repair it : (

i got now my Civic from the painter full of swirls, some orange peel after 1500 wet sand and some RDS from the 1500 sand paper that remained after compounding.....
What i should do??How can i fix the RDS?? Do i need to wet sand it with a milder sand paper or to try with polishing??
Also how should i manage with the orange peel??
Thanks guys and sorry if you got tired because of my threads....

If the scratches you're referring to are left over from the wet-sanding process, that is straight-line scratches in the direction the painter sanded the paint, then these are called Tracers, not RIDS

    Tracers, RIDS & Pigtails

Tracers = Deeper scratches left by the sanding process, usually in straight-lines because most people move their hand in a back and forth motion when wet-sanding.

RIDS = Random Isolated Deeper Scratches. These type of scratches come from normal wear & tear and there is no pattern to them.

Pigtails = These types of scratches look like a curly pig tail and are left in the paint by a DA Sander. Typically what happens is an abrasive particle gets trapped between the paint and the face of your sanding paper and because the backing plate that holds the sandpaper is moving in an oscillating fashion, it grinds the abrasive particle into the paint in a curly pattern that looks somewhat like the tail on a pig, thus the name.

All three types of defects are difficult to remove because in order to remove them you must level the upper surface of the paint with the lowest depths of the defect. That means removing paint and that's where it gets tricky.

Orange Peel is removed by wet-sanding, either by hand or machine. Afterwards you need to remove your sanding marks using a rotary buffer, a cutting pad either wool or foam and a compound.

Sorry to hear you got the usually quality of work in this industry. To fix all the above problems you really need to know how to wet-sand paint and then remove your sanding marks using a rotary buffer.

You can learn to do this but it's usually not a good idea to learn how to do these two types of procedure on something that's important to you.

Thanks once again for your answer Mike...
Tomorrow i am going to try to remove anything that can be removed by polishing....I have to practice first on my 'practice hood' and then to wet sand my car...
I am thinking to use # 83, #80,Deep Crystal Polish and some #7...
Is that ok or i should remove something from my list...??

Try the M80 and the M83 and see if either one of these will help, these are cleaner/polishes and the other two products you listed are non-abrasive pure polishes, and because they are non-abrasive they won't do much to remove the defects in the paint.

If you're not sure about the differences, then give this a quick read...
