Today I was doing a 2006 BMW 530xi and after examining the paint, I determined I was going to do the following...
Wash with GC
Clay
D151 with G110
NXT 2.0
Everything was going along amazing and I kept pulling the car out of my tiny garage and into the sun to examine the swirls and the D151 was working quite well. However, there was one spot in the center of the hood that had some scratches (not swirls). I have NO pics, but they did not have depth (your couldn't feel them) and you could ONLY see them when you would look at the car a particular angle (almost horizontal). Because the car was white, you could NOT see the scratches straight on.
I made a few passes with 151 and an 8006 pad and nothing. I decided to bump it up to #83 (new 8006) and try a few passes. Again nothing.
Finally, I went up to #105 and 2 passes and NADA. I then tried one pass with #105 by hand (thinking I could give it more passion). Didn't do a thing to the scratches. No improvement at all. I used an 8006 at speed setting 5. I did NOT want to try a 7006 pad, so I just gave up.
So, my question is this... considering the tools I own (G110, #80, #83, #105, #151, 8006, 7006, 9006), what could I have tried, or was this one of those things that was just beyond my tools? (ie: was I in rotary territory?)
I wasn't too bothered by it, because the car was white... but I sure would've liked to fix it. Any thoughts?
