  • New to Meguiars Question

In the past I have always used other products with somewhat successful results. I recently purchased a bottle of NXT 2.0 and #26 for use on other cars and absolutely loved the results. I am now switching all of my products over to Meguiars for future detailing as I believe in using the same brand for every step. I am by no means a professional detailer, just a weekend warrior. Here is my question:

A week ago I purchased a 2009 Dodge Challenger in Black Crystal Pearl. Every new car I purchase I usually try to hit with a good polish and wax as soon as possible to enhance and protect the factory paint job. Other then some minor orange peel, which seems to be the case with all new cars, the paint is flawless. I use a PC with LC pads and have picked up #82 and #3 for use on my girlfriends car. Exactly how aggressive is the #82 and, if too aggressive, what would you recommend for polishing a new paint job?

    Re: New to Meguiars Question

Hi and welcome to Meguiar's Online!

M82 is a very mild product, so if what you have is very fine swirls then M82 should eliminate them. The best way of knowing is to do a test spot to see if you can eliminate the swirls using this product, if it doesn't then you'll have to use a more aggressive product. You can always follow this product with a pure polish like M07 Show Car Glaze or M81 Hand Polish topping it with a wax, and since you liked NXT 2.0 you'll have a great combo

In the future, to avoid getting swirls back in the paint see this video, it will teach you the least invasive method to reduce the potential to get scratches/swirls into the cars paint

M82 is one of the mildest if not the mildest polish with cleaning ability, but if you don't have any paint correction to do then you would be ok with a pure Polish. yalred covered it!

        Check out this thread,

        Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

Especially read the section that talks about pure polishes and cleaner/polishes so you're up to speed on the two different types as Meguiar's is one of the few companies that make pure polishes and all our polishes are unique compared to what else is on the market due to our proprietary trade secret polishing oils.

M82 is very non-aggressive or another way of saying this is it's a very gentle or light cleaner/polish. Perfect for what you want to do as it will insure the finish is perfectly prepared for a coat of wax.

And of course, M03 is a non-abrasive pure polish with decades of satisfied customers loyal to this product.

The below was taken from our "Blast from the Past" forum.

#3 Machine Glaze - Green Label

This is a unique bottle in that the front label and the cap have a unique green color instead of the usually black color. Don't have a lot of information about why the color green was used for this particular run of bottles so we'll just let the pictures do the talking.

          Re: New to Meguiars Question

Thanks for the replies. I think we are all on the same page. I was looking for this something like this is the forums, but ended up with too many results. That is a blessing and a curse. There are alot of people dedicated to these products but makes it hard to find answers sometimes. I know that you have a new convert in me!

I had read the 5 step paint care post before and couldn't agree with it more. All paint, even new cars or new paint jobs, are not as ready as they could be and need some prep work prior to final application of the wax. In the past I have always used an ultra-fine polish from a different company for smoothing out the clearcoat and it sounds like #82 is right up the same alley. I am pretty excited about the pure polishes. In the past I have always jumped from the final ultra-fine polish to the wax. I have heard wonderful things about #3 and #7 and am looking forward to adding this step to my detail sessions. On this car I think I am going to try the #26 instead of the NXT 2.0. I am a little old school and always think that carnubas look a little deeper on dark cars. That could just be my preferences talking though. Thanks for all of your help.
