  • Deep crystal question...winter

I managed to wash, clay bar and the 3 step deep crystal clean, polish & wax...took about 4 hours on a 04 toyota highlander.
what i am concerned with is the approaching winter of cold, slush & salt in the NE.
    to optimize protection:
will adding top layer(s) of the depp crystal wax help? another mequiar wax or sealant? What to avoid using?

I dont plan to do the 3 step process again until next spring, but will continue sporatic wash & quick detail weather & time permiting. This SUV is never garaged...

    thanks

It would be a very good idea to apply an additional coat of the #3 Carnauba Wax at this point to maximize protection. As a rule, one coat is good, two coats is better.

Further, as winter gets a tad closer, you may apply a couple of additional coats of the Deep Crystal wax to keep the protection strong going into the winter months.

For durable protection I'll apply 2 coats of NXT Tech Wax. I'll apply a coat of NXT Tech Booster after each wash until the weather starts to turn cold. I'll then top the NXT with a coat of #16 carnauba and try to keep the car clean using a touchless carwash. #16 is an extremely durable carnauba and has carried me through to spring in past years before NXT was introduced.

Here are a couple of pics of one of my client's 04 Highlander after NXT Tech Wax.

NXT Tech Wax is a polymer coating. It's great. The NXT Booster is for use on the NXT Tech Wax so I don't know how effective it would be just applied on top of DC Carnauba#3. It is easy to use to keep the finish looking and feeling like it has just been waxed. It takes about 30 minutes to apply to a Highlander. Very easy on and off. Try doing a search for NXT Booster and see what other users think of it.

            thanks RP & Jim

so, Jim you do this for a living? How much time do you spend on it? Looked nice, but the tires were too glossy for my tastes...still looking for wheel protectant and tire dressing...
But dont know if using NXT over Deep Ctrystal is advisable

              Hi nes,

              Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

The Spray Wax is not a replacement for a regular coat of wax, it is basically a spray on wax that will quickly restore that just waxed look to a car without actually applying a normal coat of wax.

I am a big fan of the NXT Spray Wax and use it all of the time.

At this time, NXT Tech Wax is Meguiar's best protecting wax, to get through the winter, I would recommend Tech Wax.

Meguiar's #16 Professional Paste Wax is an what is referred to as a heavy or hard wax. It is very popular for a wax that came out in approximately 1951 and growing in popularity as time goes by. A lot of people like to top their synthetic paint sealants with a traditional wax like the #16 Professional Paste Wax. Whether this improves protection, or increases durability I don't know, you'll have to try it yourself and see what you think next spring.

Detailing is a fun sideline for me. I've been detailing cars for a bit over 45 years now. I do two or three cars a week during the warmer months. I have an established clientele that keeps me busy.

I felt the tires were too glossy too but the client wanted the wet look on the tires so I gave hem the wet look. I usually use Endurance tire gel for a long lasting satin look. The new Hot Shine product is also nice.

NXT Tech wax is also a great wheel protectant as it holds up to the heat well.
