  • Pure polish question

I had my car fully detailed about a month ago. They appear to have done a very good job. It's time to wash the car and I thought I'd also apply a coat of wax.

My car is black. May I apply a pure polish even though I do not plan, at this point, to clean the paint, that having been done just a month ago?

Would the pure polish remove the wax that is already on the car?

    TIA.

    Re: Pure polish question

A Pure Polish like #7 or Deep Crystal Polish, will not remove wax, just add oils to the paint. If you want to remove wax, use something like Deep Crystal System Paint Cleaner.

Rubbing anything over the paint would have some cleaning action... it may or may not remove the wax, but you would certainly want to wax over the polish again.

If you don't want to do a complete detail right now, you might just go for putting the new coat of wax you wanted.

However, you could try the polish too, if you wish, or just save it for next time, to see if you can wow yourself.

Gold Class has some polishing abilities in it too, but that may not be the wax you were going to use anyway.

This is a correct statement and one we've explained in detail multiple times on this thread as some people get confused over this topic.

Rubbing any kind of liquid/creamy substance over an automotive paint with a microscopic layer of wax or some kind of paint sealant will act to remove it... not increase it...

          Make sense?

Procedures like claying and even washing a car acts to remove a layer of wax, not add to it. Also, protective coatings wear off as a normal reaction to wear and tear over time.

So a layer of wax or a paint sealant is usually wearing off over time, not staying the same as when you first applied it.

In answer to your question, "Yes" you can polish the paint before waxing and "yes", applying and working a polish over the paint will act to remove whatever is left of what was previously applied, at least if you think of things in extremes, applying and rubbing any liquid over what was previously applied isn't going to increase the amount of the previously applied product.

          Go for it!
