  • brand new 2004 ford ranger + newbie detail questions

Hello Everyone my name is Frank and i am a newbie to this site i have just bought a brand new 2004 ford ranger and i think this site rocks i have read a lot of posts and many people on here are very knowledgebale. My question is since reading this site i am definitely going to order a porter cable esp with the promotion price : ). Since i am a total moron to this detailing thing i would like to know everything i should order along with the PC and all of the products that would best suit my needs for my brand new truck. I have seen stuff about this backing plate, and cutting plates and all kind of stuff like that, that i have no idea what people are talking about sorry for being so dumb anyways if you guys can help send me in the right way about what some of this stuff means and also what products i should be ordering. Thanks a lot guys

      Hi viper20,

      Welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Jump right in and ask all the question you like, we all started out knowing nothing, and the way we learned was from trial and error, or if we were lucky, someone shared their experience and knowledge with us. I myself have learned a lot from my friends here at Meguiar's like Mike Pennington, Barry Meguiar, the chemists, etc., and also in my life from detailers and painters that were detailing cars while I was still in diapers. Of course, there's a lot to be said for diving in and learning from first hand experince.

So ask any question you like and I'm sure you will get plenty of helpful answers.

Here's one. The backing plate is a plastic plate that attaches to the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher with a 5/16 fine thread shank. The other side has Velcro on it and this enables you to attach a foam pad to it as the foam pad also has Velcro material attached to one side of it. If you look at the picture of the PC below, you will see the PC, a backing plate and a foam pad.
