  • Did my M80 go bad? (pics)

My M80 seems very thin compared to my M83. Is this normal? I bought these from Meguiars website a couple of years back. I can't find the exact date of purchase. There is about 85 percent left in the bottle. I tried using it, but it just saturates my pad. I think the pad is ruined because it soaked up so much product.

Here is what happens when I tilt the cardboard slightly:

M80 is much thinner than M83

Looks normal to me. If you read this forum enough you'll read comments about how M80 offers a much longer buffing cycle, or it has more play time, that's because it's a wetter product than a cleaner/polish like M83.

Conversely, if you were to read this forum long enough you would read how M83 has a steeper learning curve to use because it's not as wet a product as the M80

OK.. I must be using it wrong then. Maybe, I'm using too much product. I used a brand new pad and loaded it up using the circle and it sucked up the product. This is with a 8006 pad.

M80 is thinner than M83, but if it's as think as you describe it is possible it has somehow gone bad. Our products have a working shelf life of 3-5 years as long as they are not exposed to extreme cold or extreme heat, L(like most products on the market).

Foam does absorb liquids, so the more you use any liquid the more saturated the pad is going to become.

Here's how to apply product to the face of your foam pads, if you're using more than this then you're definitely using too much product.

M80 should not be thin like water, so you'll need to make the judgment as to whether it's too thin to be normal. Do you have any car buddies in the area that you can compare consistency of product?

Agree with Mike, both products in the picture look like the normal, what's a fancy word, viscosity.

Yeah, looks normal to me too. #83 is thicker and smoother then #80. To me, #80 is more like #7. Thinner and slicker then #83.

I have two used bottles of #80. One, when I shake it, sounds very thin like water. The other sounds much thicker. Would it be alright to combine the two bottles or does one sound like it's gone bad somehow?

If one is bad, don't mix it with the one that is good, that would make two bottles of bad product. If you're confident there's something wrong with one of your bottles of M80 Speed Glaze, then take your receipt and the bottle back to where you purchased it and ask for a refund or a replacement.

Thanks Mike. But I have no idea which of most of my products I bought where???
I'll pour a little out of my gallon of #80, then a little from each of the 32 oz sizes, and compare them. Whichever looks and feels more like the sample from the gallon, that'll be the keeper.

This is a bit funny because my bottle of #80 is thicker than my #83.

My #83 looks the same as the one in your photo, nice, sticky and gelatinous. My #80 is more like a hard gel to look at, but spreads and works beautifully. When it squeezes out of the spout it keeps its rectangular shape, but softer and less sticky to touch than my #83.

No biggy...just curious how different to the above experience.

Re: Did my M80 go bad? (pics)

Here at Meguiar's we've used a lot of M80 over the years as we go through a lot of it at our Thursday and Saturday classes. On a personal note, I use it on almost all the older single stage paints I've worked on for my own cars and customer's cars and in most cases it's thinner than M83.

There could be times when it has a thicker consistency as there can be sleight variations between batches but that's all relative, as long as the product is good then the performance should meet or exceed expectations.

If anyone has any Meguiar's paint care product that they strongly feel something is wrong with it then the best thing to do is to return it to the store where they purchased it with their receipt and if that option isn't working then contact Customer Care.
