  • Touchless Car Wash vs Wax

I own an automatic touchless. I was wondering if there are studies that have been done that show how harsh soap has to be to remove wax. Or how long it will take soap to remove wax. I'm sure it depends on what kind of wax or how much wax has been applied.

I guess I'd like to know if there are certain alkaline levels that upon exceeding the level will begin removing the wax or maybe certain titration levels. I do not use acid soaps.

I was also wondering what effect typical spray on waxes have on finish. I've asked my rep, but I'd like to hear what this board has to say about them.

This may seem strange, but I've owned the wash for 6 years and only know that the products make the cars clean. Other than that I don't know much about how they work or the real results of them.

I've heard that the soap used in touchless is really harsh. It kind of needs to be stronger since it is touchless and will need to remove dirt. Please don't take offensive but I, and most people here avoid Touchless Car washes for that reason. I don't see any wax holding up very long since the soaps are so stronger. When it comes to auto car washes, you basically have to choices. Harsh detergents vs. dirty brushed and cheap detergent scrubbing your paint.

No offense taken. My particular wash uses mostly heat and copious amounts of water. Honestly it probably uses more water than any other model (we're on a well not city and no meter on the sewer ) So I'm thinking that my titration levels are probably not as high as most.

I guess I can run some tests to see if it is removing the wax or how many washes are needed to remove the wax. I know I spend a lot of time on my black Prix and the wax is definitely holding up and I probably wash it twice/ week. I strongly doubt it is the spray on wax that is holding up on the car, but maybe. I'll have to run it through washes without the spray wax and see what happens.
