  • Custom wheel recommendation F150

    Hiya everyone,

I have a new 2008 F150 supercab STX with their stock wheels (the slightly better looking ones than base model wheels).

I'd like to put black 20's on the truck but I am having a hard time finding any that I like that will fit the truck.

Can anyone recommend any? Maybe on-line sites? Maybe pics of your wheels?

I live in the DFW area in Texas.

    Thanks!
    Darin

Ah, my truck is black and I just put black Westin nerf bars on it.

      Here's a friendly tip...

Take into consideration how difficult and how long it will take you to clean the wheels into your decision...

Can't tell you how many people have come through our Saturday class with complaints about how hard it is to clean the custom wheels they chose...

Chrome is pretty much impervious to any attack and will last a long time if you just keep it clean, built up dirt in seams will trap moisture and cause rust, but if you keep dirt from building up then the chrome will last as long as you and your truck. It's also Bubba-Proof when it comes to cleaning them, you can use just about any wheel cleaner on the market without fear of causing any harm, you can't say that about every other wheel option.

I just bought a set of wheels and tires, the wheels are American Racing steel wheels with a high gloss black painted finish. As soon as I can find some chrome or straight aluminum wheels to replace them they'll be up for sale or stored in the garage. Paint is hard enough to maintain on the car let alone on a wheel.

Just some things to consider from someone that has seen a lot of people go through our Saturday classes as well as answered a lot of wheel care problems over the years.

        Tirerack.com has a decent site.

Summit Racing I think sells wheels.

We have Les Schwabs here on the west and they have a computer that dials in your paint color and when you select the wheel it shows up on the car. Pretty handy as the wife was watching like a hawk on our Yukon, she picked the wheels on both of our DD's

MIKE! Perfect hehe. I didn't phrase my question very well but that is also the kind of information I wanted to hear.

I guess I thought that cleaning would be the same chrome/alum/black. I know for sure I wouldn't get complex looking wheels because they'd be hard to detail and hard to keep detailed.

Thanks for the link Nappers. I'll look at their site in just a min.

I will probably go with the local place (North Hills Tire and Wheel if anyone in this area is reading this thread). but I'd like to browse around and get a better idea of what is available. Then I can show Mike at NH T&W what I am looking for to see what he has - exact match or close.

Thanks sudsbyhubbs. There are some great articles about wheels on that site too.

tirerack is a good one. I've had things from there drop shipped to a local tire store then they put them on for me. Worked out great!

Another site is bigwheels.net. I've never bought anything from them but they have a lot to look at.

Great links! I like being able to see the wheel on the truck too.

                    Thanks guys!

Be aware that if you buy bare aluminum wheels you'll have to polish them regularly to maintain their shine. I would suggest a chrome or at least clear coated aluminum wheel if you want to minimize cleaning time.

                        Hey Darin,

TireRack.com seems to have a good selection of black wheels for your truck available in 20's.

The NTB in Grapevine on 114 is in their (tirerack.com) network of recommended installers. The whole process is very easy and NTB is very accommodating. Take a look at tirerack.com and if you see something you like, give the installer program on the site at look, then give NTB a call and get a feel for the process, might save a good chunk of cash.
