  • first time....

So today I received my G110 from the ups guy...I was so anxios to use it so I went out to the car and just did the hood tonight...I have an 01 acura cl-s...when I did my test spot I found that I needed two passes with 83 on a 8006 pad...does that sound normal to anyone?? so a few things also that I notice; dusting from the 83..and the fact I had to do two passes...

I've read and read and read this forum up and down the last month or so...about arm speed, about pressure while using 83...I guess what i'm getting at is that I can't beleive I had to do two passes with 83...something different I should try when I do the rest of the car?? how slow is slow arm speed...and do you all use a scale from time to time to make sure your using the right 20lbs of pressure or so...also I did like8-10 passes with the 83..does that sound about right on a 15"x15" area?? also I finished up with 80 on a different 8006 pad(yes I bought more than one, thankyou guys!!) what is the typical work in time with that...till the breakdown point, I felt I was doing about 6-8 passes with the 80 alone...after all was said and done I went over it again with 50/50 80 and 07 bc I read somewhere that a detailer uses that combo from time to time...I did half the hood a time with that combo, only the pressure of the machine and fast passes....

one thing I havn't mentioned yet was how good the hood looked, even at night...LOL I finished at 12:30...tomorrow is going to be a long day..

You're only as good as your last detail

Oh man that first detail is great... but the sad thing is you and I both have so much to learn! (only detailed my car twice, only once a total)

Most the stuff sounded right, here are some quick tips I have accumulated from these boards that made my life much easier.

    * 83 gunks up quickly, meaning your pad will slow/stop and you will get less cleaning done. "clean of the fly" every two applications of product.
    * swap pads every panel or two (really helps!)
*when using 83, apply only THREE TO FOUR pea size drops. It sounds waaaay to small, but it really helps prevent the gunk up. Its all you need anyways.
*use a sharpie to mark a section of the back of your pad. Make sure it rotates! This may be part of the problem. If the pad is not rotating, make sure to have the pad flush with the panel and lightning up the pressure as needed. (some get gutsy enough to use speed 6, but I found that to damage pads when using it to "clean on the fly")

83 is a pain, 80 rocks. 83 is great once you get used to it, so no worries.

Someone please verify my info. Still a bit of a rookie myself.

I had great luck with M83 on a 8006 pad, I did two passes on my Neon, I had slight dusting but nothing too bad. I laid a thin bead (say the size of a video game cord) about an inch inboard from the pad. I "kiss" the paint with the pad in 5 places (4 to make a square then 1 in the middle). I used what I thought was slow but steady arm speed, I put marks on my pads to make sure the pad spins nicely. I work the product in back and forth, across, overlap say about a minute or longer and wipe off. If you work it too long or too much product, you get dusting and it's harder to wipe off. I kept QD handy and gave a Quik spritz to aid in wipe off if it dried. I did up to 3 passes followed by M09 on our Neon as it has hard as nails clear coat.

Your 2 passes is not bad. Maybe less product. Make sure to clean the pad on the fly after AT LEAST every other application (I did every application) and I used 2 pads for the whole car with the Neon. There's a couple good threads on cleaning the pad on the fly. I use a terry cloth, turn machine on, grab the pad with the terry cloth and squeeze it to get the product out and let the terry soak it up.

      Have fun.

M83 is great stuff, so is 80 and ....and.....and.....
