  • Making a list of products for a friend

Like the title says, I'm putting together a list for a friend who wants me to teach them the basics. All products will be used by hand.

    I was thinking:

Gold Class Car Wash (NXT wash if available)
    Scratch X
    Cleaner Wax and/or?? Color X
    Deep Crystal #2 Polish
    NXT Wax and Booster Wax
    Quik Detailer

I mentioned that he can get the #20 for use a "base" for the NXT if he wants.

How does this sound to everyone??

The list looks good to me Don,

If the finish is in neglected condition, I would lean towards the ColorX as it offers dramatically more cleaning power than the maroon bottle of Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax (A-12)

One thing about Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax, (A-12), that a lot of people don't know is that it's actually a pretty good product. It cleans, polishes and protects in one step like any good cleaner/wax as long as the finish isn't too neglected. It also produces a rich looking finish and for those that care about water beading, it beads water pretty well too.

Suggested retail price is $4.99 and it can be used on almost anything by hand or with an orbital polisher or a PC.

Not bad for a wax that's been around since 1973. How many waxes can you name that have been around for that long?

For a lot of people, Meguiar's Cleaner/Wax will do a nice job on all of the cars in their garage. You do need to be careful with it around pebble textured black plastic as it will turn white.

Both cars are new (2004's) but they have been neglected (as defined by a car crazy detailing nut).

There are several scratched areas that made me recommend the Scratch-X and I was leaning toward Color-X because I kind of know how long the intervals between waxings are going to be and by then they will need a bit of added cleaning (another reason for suggesting the #20 base for NXT)

this is a good example of how we all started out with a couple of things and end up with cabinets full of detail supplys.
