  • Is it necessary to remove wax before compounding?

I like to work on my daily driver when I get time and the car has been completely clayed and (hand) compounded and waxed.

I've got a rotary and DA now and would like to work on removing some swirls. Do I have to clay the finish first if it is still smooth to remove wax or can I just wash and go straight to the rotary or DA?

As long as the surface doesn't need to be clayed to remove above surface contaminants, you can just wash and go straight to paint. Whatever you are going to use to remove the swirls will easily remove wax.

Hmm must have been tired this morning. What I meant to say is you can just wash and go straight to paint correction.
