Hot Rims Safe For Body/bumpers Trim on 87 300 SDL?

Hey Guys I have a 1987 Mercedes Benz 300 SDL and it has body trim that is shiny....I am not sure what it is made out of but it has some what looks like pitting in it...some parts are hazy/shiny some are just shiny....I was wondering if hot rims could be used to clean this pitting or whatever it is off...tried an older thing of Mothers Mag aluminum polish and it seemed to make the issue worse....and a part on the back bumper wore down to a shiny spot that is very smooth and a slightly different color but not the same color as the other trim...I have been debating also if nothing can be done with this pitting if I could just strip any coating right off and go with the natural metal look....

Anways I was hoping Hot rims could help me...let me know if this will do the trick of getting rid of the pitting in it...

Do a test spot always with anything, if the applicator turns black when applying product then it is uncoated, if it doesn't turn black, then it's coated. I used Hot Rims on my Yukon aluminum trim and it seemed to be too aggressive with it and I ended up using M105 on it. It's pretty sensitive aluminum but it works great on my wheels (where the clear coat has chipped off completely)I would try NXT All Metal Polysh first to be sure. It's pretty easy to find and safe and it also will turn the applicator black if it's uncoated. Hot rims is good is good stuff though

I don't think it would, I used it on what I thought was uncoated wheels (as the applicator turned black) and the wheels were just plain dirty and I rescrubbed them and used ColorX on them and no problems with them. Hot Rims Mag/Aluminum polish is made for uncoated aluminum and chrome. I imagine your car is either uncoated aluminum or possibly stainless steel.

I did use colorx on them...they did shine...but minimal came off the on the rag..any hints?

Hmm, may be reaching my knowledge of metal trim as I just got over doing mine on the Yukon. If it turns black at all, it is uncoated. You need to do more than one pass, I did up to 3 passes on the final process on my trim.

I would find out through a dealer or a Mercedes forum what the trim is and go from there so you get the right product.

hard to tell if it's stainless or aluminum, not sure when they made the switch from stainless to aluminum.

If it were me, I would buy some NXT All Metal Polysh, it's great stuff and does some protecting on top of polishing and pretty dang cheap. That way if it's chrome, coated, uncoated etc it won't hurt it. Then you can see what type of metal it is.
