I picked up a new Pontiac G8 a couple months ago and am starting to notice some swirls marks. Since purchasing the car I have used a clay bar on it to remove an excessive amount of rail dust and then followed that up with a coat of gold glass wax. Now I am looking to do a full detail on this car to get rid of the swirls. I have used a cheap da polisher in the past but I am thinking of upgrading to the Meguiars polisher. I want to get the best possible finish I can and would like to know which products I should use.

You will not be dissapointed if you get a G110/G100/PC7424(same as G100).

If you do anything by hand or machine, do a test spot first with the products you get and start with least aggressive first and get your process dialed in before you do the whole car so you don't do it then not be happy with the results. I own a GM car but it's about 8 years older and it's easy to correct any blemishes.

Meguiars site has a 10% off on purchases throught the end of November, Auto Detailing Solutions sells G110 packages with all of the Meg's products, Members Kevin Brown and I think RaskyR1 are authorized dealers and have the knowledge to use the products for your application so you don't buy a bunch of stuff you don't need.

The favorite combo of Mirror Glaze line is M80 - Speed Glaze, M83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish(not to be confused with the Dual Action Polisher-the machine) which is more aggresive than M80. M105 is a new product designed for removal of sanding marks but has proven popular by hand and PC for multiple applications with practice.

The new Detailer Line D151, Paint Reconditioning Cream is a more aggresive All in one Cleaner wax. ColorX is a Cleaner wax popular although pretty mild in my experience but works great.

Waxes popular are NXT 2.0, M21 2.0, M26, M20, Gold Class and if you can get it, M16(no longer available from Meguiar's in the states, on ebay and if your lucky private sells, I have 6 tins).

Popular pure polishes are M07 and Machine Glaze M03, which are optional and very popular.

Get plenty of Meguiars microfiber cloths for safe removal of polish/wax/products and if you wax or apply products by hand, the Meguiar's yellow applicator pads.

There is a never ending arsenal of interior/exterior plastic(dash) products, such as Natural Shine, NXT Tech Protect(all in one cleaner dressing), M40(my favorite), All Season Dressing, Hyper Dressing, Trim Detailer.

Windows: (and you thought my fingers are sore, I can type brother!), Detailer line of Window cleaner, NXT window cleaner.

Oh...All purpose Cleaner(APC) or All Purpose Cleaner Plus(low foam=easy on rugs) for general cleaning, heck might as well throw engine degreaser in there if your motor gets all greasy, and if does on that G8, you'll be beat and banned from MOL

Just to clarify, I use the microfiber bonnets over the 7207 cutting pad? Also, the 8206 is for the cleaner/polish and the 9206 is for the wax, what is the 7207 used for? Sorry if it is a dumb question but I just want to make sure that I am going to order the right stuff. I almost forgot, does Meguiars make a glass cleaner that is tint safe?

most of the time the 7207 pad is used for heavy defect removal with a Makita or Dewalt..usually not the pc b/c Megs does not recommend it.

Most of the time it is used with a microfiber bonnet for removal. It is not recommended for paint correction with the da.

So it sounds as if I would use the 7207 pad when the paint is in really bad shape? More then likely I would not need this because I have a new car where the paint is not that bad and is maintained well.

Yep, I own one but tried it on my Neon with hard as nails clear coat with a rotary and it had more holograms than billys baseball card collection, but that was my test section and I was able to get rid of it in a pinch with M83 on a PC.

microfiber towels, for drying the car

I was going to try the M80, with the 8207, first and check the results and if needed use M83. Now if I need to use the M83, I could use it with the 8207 or should I use the 7207? I am pretty sure that I would use the 8207, just want to make sure. Then follow all that up with a coat of gold class wax using the 9207. Any tips on removing wax residue from the black plastic trim if any gets on there? Is there anything I missed?

I was also thinking about doing my mother in-laws car whose paint is in bad shape. I would think in that case I would need to use the 7207, but with what cleaner M83 or something stronger?

The 7207 pad is not meant for The G110. It's for use with a rotary and heavier compounds, not something you want to play with yet.

Typically, Cleaner/polishes are used with a 8 series pad (8006/8207) and the 9 series pads with wax. I have used a 9 series with M80 just for fun in a test spot when I first used the DA, "least aggressive approach first"

I mentioned getting plenty of pads so you don't wear them out and typically you use 2 per car anyways.

I can't say enough about a test spot. The car may be in bad shape but a mild cleaner may clean it up. Or.....Something stronger is needed. Depends on the car. What car is it, year, picture would be handy.

I would start with M80, 8 series pad and go from there on a test spot.

Auto Detailing Solutions has great deals on pads, 6 pack of 7207/8207 or 9207 for 60 bucks (mix and match) and the older pads mix and match for 50 bucks.

Two five gallon buckets, car wash and grit guards (you can buy at ADS). Depending on how bad wheels are, some Meguiars Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner or Hot Rims Aluminum Cleaner if your wheels are uncoated polished aluminum, find out from your dealer on what type of wheels you got, polished, chrome, polished clear coated, machined clear coated, hate to use the wrong stuff on her.

Thanks for the comments Nappers. I already have a five gallon bucket that has a grit guard built in. Got it at wally world for a couple bucks a couple years ago. I also have plenty Meguiars Hot Rims All Wheel Cleaner, as I have used that stuff for a while now. I will probably to the deal for six pads and get three 8207 and three 9207 to have on hand. Do you use the Ultimate wipes to dry and remove product or the big Soft Touch Dry Cloths? If you use the big ones I was thinking about the case, qty 37, of the Supreme Shine MF's. Thanks again for all your input!!

I own an ultimate cloth, haven't used it yet (DOH!) but I would use it to remove wax. The case of the Supreme Shine Microfiber cloths would be smart. Remember when you wash them, DO NOT USE SOFTNER OR DRYER SHEETS, it gets in the cloth and messes things up. I use Hot water, tumble dry delicate. I haven't used the soft touch drying cloth. I just use the supreme shine cloths to dry. I take the nozzle off of the hose and run the water over it and it seems to help dry better. I have some older Costco sold MF towels I use for the door jambs and what not that I don't worry about getting dirty.

3 and 3 is a good start, then the sickness starts and you'll be diagnosed as being CAR CRAZY.
