I really don't have the money to buy a 150 dolllar Buffer. What is the main difference between the Meguiar's and the 25 dollar ones you can find at the store?

Cheap ones can spread wax and thats about it.

G110/G100/PC can restore paint to a luster that the cheapo and by hand cannot match. Step up to a rotary when the capability of the PC has been reached.

ADS has packages with the G110 that includes some products and pads and the backing plate.

PlastX will make your headlights nice, depends on how bad they are and may need a more aggressive approach.

M105 by hand may get you the results you want, test spot first!

Thanks for the help, so do you guys recommend these products over the new Turtle Wax ICE? From past experience with anything "all in one" isn't the way to go. I also like to see my wax...

So orbital buffers can spread the wax, do they burn the paint, or is that rotary buffers? Can I not get the same results using an orbital buffer w/M80 as I would with a DA. Thanks :P

Only if you soak it in lighter fluid and light it on fire while you polish (Okay I stole that). The PC will not burn the paint, you could use the wrong product and cause excessive marring or holograms using to strong a product and a cutting pad. The orbital will not match what a PC can do, the bigger 10" orbitals are better than the little 6 inch oribitals but not much. Rotary buffers with a cutting pad on full blast and held in one spot can severely damage paint, but one would not do that normally while polishing.

Save your pennies and nickels to buy a PC.

I've seen the G100's go as low as 60-70 bucks on Ebay, the PC7424 is the same machine as the G100 or you can save and get a G110 package from ADS or save 10% (thru end of Nov) on a G110 through MeguiarsDirect.

I own a G100 and I love it. I may buy a G110 someday though

OH, all in one cleaner/wax works good with mild swirls, the new D151 from the Detailer line is a more aggresive product and will provide better results with tougher blemeshes.

I never used Turtle Wax Ice, cannot comment on that.

you should not be comparing the orbitals and the DA that way because orbitals don't do anything..... even for spreading wax..... its hard to find a quality bonnet for those things so it may swirl the paint.....

i tried to correct paint with orbital and scratch X..... after one panel the thing overheated and started bogging down and eventually just refused to turn on..... this is because you have to put pressure on it and the motors in the orbitals are pretty weak....

the DA is a totally different genre of buffers.... it has a much more powerful motor that will not bog down and remove scratchs and swirls while still being safe enough that it is not possible to burn through the paint with what meguiars recommends for the DA to be used with.....

A rotary buffer is the most powerful kind of buffer and it can correct deeper scratchs and stubborn swirls on harder paint jobs..... this kind of buffer requires skill and experiance because it can leave serious buffer swirls and can easily burn through paint if not used properly.... while most if not all detail shops out there use a rotary.... half of them dont know what they are doing and leave buffer swirls and burns in the paint..... since you are just beginning detailing and you actually care about your car..... it is not recommended that you start out in the rotary.....

members on here have experimented with turtle wax ICE and it works as a wax.....

when waxing with a traditional wax.... you should not apply so much that you actually see white when you spread it over the paint..... it takes much longer to dry that way and you are just wasting product since what is left on the paint after you wipe it off is a microscopic layer.... it is also harder to have a streakfree shine when you put a lot... the hood for example would only require a blob of wax the size of a penny....

My headlights are getting "cloudy." Does Meguiar's Plastx remove it?

PlastX is a great product you can use to remove the cloudy-ness from your headlights.

I tried it on my '00 Accord with a terry towel (no sandpaper though because my headlights were not that bad...just very cloudy). A lot of work but definitely worth it.

You could also use PlastX on your taillights.

I will use the 80 and 83 on it. Are these products safe on a 2002 Lexus ES 300? It is a blackcherry color, and it has very minor scratches/swirls.

Also Can the buffer be used on the bumpers of cars if they are plastic? I have more scratches on the rear bumper from everyday wear/tear. Thanks

If you're going to work by hand then stick with one of these,

Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner
ScratchX
M105

M105 is recommended for use with a rotary buffer or by hand, not with a DA Polisher.

M105 does work really well by hand so you might want to go with this option.

As long as the bumpers have car paint like the rest of the car you can. What the underlying material is doesn't matter because you're working on the surface coating.

After the cleaning step you'll want to apply a pure polish and then a wax as the cleaning step will not maximize the gloss and doesn't leave behind any protection.

I am getting a Clay Kit today to see if it would help...

Clear coat paints are hard as compared to older single stage paints and that makes it difficult for you to remove small particles of paint in the cleaning step which is how you remove defects.

You have to remove a little paint and do it in a way that doesn't leave the paint swirled and scratched at the same time. That's why you just can't use any old aggressive rubbing compound.

ScratchX works as we've demonstrated zillions of times at all our classes but it does take the right technique and some passion behind the pad.

Claying won't remove swirls and scratches because it only removes contaminants boded to the top surface of the paint, claying doesn't remove your car's paint so it won't remove the swirls and scratches in the paint.

Get some M105, it works well by hand and it's faster and easier too...

What Technique to you use? I use terry/sponge/microfiber applicators and go in circular motions, back/forth, etc.
So get M105 right now and do it by hand. If it doesn't work than get the DA and M80 and M83.

I am going to Advance Auto Parts in about 5 minutes, I know I can't get this stuff there but is there any products I should have too.

I ended up getting a 12 Pack of Large Microfiber Clothes, PlastX, and the Turtle Wax Liquid Clay Bar. Today I am getting the NXT Polish.

Can PlastX be used on all plastics, or just clear ones. It did make my headlights look great.
