  • I've got a minor problem. HELP

Alright here's my list of steps.

    1. Wash the entire car with soup and water. Dry.
    2. Clay bar the entire car and dry immediately.
    3. Clean the car with Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner and dry immediately. (applied with foam applicator)
    4. Polish the car with Deep Crystal Polish and dry immediately.
    (applied with foam applicator)
    5. Apply Gold Class Wax Paste with bare hands.
    6. Dry for 20 minutes then buff with a Microfiber towel.

My problem is after I apply the paint cleaner, it appears oily and smudgy BUT even. I tried wiping with the towel but it wouldnt go away UNTIL I apply the Gold Class Wax and then wiped it down after 20 minutes of drying. After the whole process, it looks great!

Long story short, both the Paint Cleaner and Polish appears oily and smudgy and wont clear up without having to apply the wax afterwards. Is it suppose to be smudgy or clear when applying the Paint Cleaner and Polish? Am I just using too much?

    Thank you in advance!

it is most likely because the towel you are using..... terry clothes arent the best at leaving a streak free shine.... try using a microfiber towel....

It really doesn't matter anyway as it's not the last step. Any residual traces of a paint cleaner or a pure polish will be removed when the wax is removed.

The end result is the final result and the only result that matters.

If you like you can always switch to a quality microfiber polishing cloth and mist some Quik Detailer onto the paint and give the entire finish a clean-up wipe down before applying wax but it's really not necessary.

For years when I detailed cars professionally I would apply #7 show car glaze after all the prep-work steps and then wipe most of it off, (didn't matter if their were trace smears of the product on the paint), and then apply the first coat of wax. After the wax dried and was wiped off, EVERYTHING was wiped off and the paint always would look show car quality and then the next coat of wax would be applied.

It's not anything to be worried about or to lose sleep over.

Remember, polishing paint is not only an art form but a process...

I don't want to clog the forum and start another thread so I might as well just ask here. What is the difference between the old Gold Class Wax Paste vs. the new Gold Class Wax paste? I have the older one I believe. (The one with the Applicator Pad behind the can, not inside)

I'm not aware of any changes to it besides packaging. The new waxes I've seen are the NXT 2.0 and M21 2.0 and brand new D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream.

Right, I asked this a couple weeks ago as I wasn't even sure what the new packaging was between the two you mentioned. I have the one with the pad inside the can. I was told the packaging that came before that one was also the same formula, so sounds like no worries for you.

I would say you need to switch from chicken or beef soup that is full of oily stuff to one that is fat-free, like veggie.
