  • Dealer 3 Yr. Wax?

We're considering purchasing a new car. The dealer is charging $799.00 for some kind of paint protectant they've added. The salesman cannot tell me much about it other than supposedly one does not need to wax the car for approx. 3 years. I'm skeptical. Anyone know what this might be and does it work? If I do my normal routine of clay, M80 using a DA, and a couple of coats of NXT, will I remove the so called protectant?
    Thanks,
    Larry

Never mind. Just found my answer in the "myths and confusion" section. $800 for a wax job, I think not. Time to find another car dealer.

What that is is $779 profit in the dealers pocket and no more protection than you would get with your own routine. Skip it. It's a scam.

Yes, your use of clay, #80 would remove anything on your paint. You can get quite a lot of detailing supplies for $800.

I spoke to a mobile detailer a month ago that does wax protectant for dealerships. Basically, the detailer indicated the dealership hyped the wax the detailer is applying. The wax is just a acrylic based wax (like Klasse AIO), in which the dealership paid about $50 per car to the detailer. The dealer turns around and charge $500 plus dollars. They figure, it would still be chaper to keep reapplying the wax for the number of years they promise to the customer.
The mobile detailer told be he sells his wax protection to he direct customer for about $150.00. However, he does not promise 5 plus years like the dealership.
