  • M80 vs. M09

    I have a blue 04 cadi deville
my plan is to polish it with the da using m09, then m03 then sealant 26.
I keep reading how everyone uses the m80. but dont read anyone using the m09.

my car's paint looks good its shiny and glossy, and reflective it just looks a little dry when in the sun.
i've only used the m9/m3 combo applying by hand but it doesnt seem to last.

Does anybody hear use the m09??

Honestly, I LOVE M09! I have both, and when it comes to rotary use, M09 is just such a pleasure to use. Being in a smaller bottle also makes it much easier to carry around as well. By hand, it works fantastically well. Being readily available in stores makes it a winner in my book too!

Unless you are working with a DA polisher or rotary, I would say just keep on using M09.

      Re: M80 vs. M09

09 is not as aggressive as 80 or scratch X when it comes to removing swirls and reviving oxidized paint.... it is just not as efficient so most people just jump straight to 80 for taking care of the daily driving wear and tear on the paint as well as light scratches..... 80 also leaves a finish that does not have to be followed up by anything other than wax

the only bad thing about 80 is that it is hard to find in person so you would have to order it online unless you are lucky enough to have a shop nearby that sells meguiar's professional line products

i think the issue is how bad is the condition of the paint? Some pics would help to show what your up against

I love using #80. In your post you mention that your paint looks dry. I would give #80 a try. With the ability to get rid of scratches and swirls and the rich polishing oils in it. I believe this would make your caddy look great. Just my 0.02

#80 sounds like you best bet. I like #9 but you may need something slightly more agressive. Plus, I beleive #80 has more oils in it which may help your paint.

so let me get this straight..if i use the da to apply m80 i wont have to follow up with anything but wax? does the m80 buff out to a finished look?
in the past i have used #2 and #4 which always required a follow up buff. meguiars products are confusing!!!!!!!!!!

                Re: M80 vs. M09

It just depends on what your working on and how you dial your process in on the test spot. I used it on my Neon after passes with M83, used the M09 to get out the slight marring M83 did and it worked perfectly. I like M09, just part of the big picture and an option.

Best is to do a test spot and get your process dialed in and start with least aggressive. After you dial it in, then you can remember what you used and use it. The finish should not be as hard to maintain once you get the paint corrected as with my Neon, I think M80 with patience should keep her maintained from now on.

The Neon has a hard as nails clear coat, needed a hammer sometimes

                  nappers...
ya i think all chrysler cars have the hard paint! ok my cars paint is good. basically it lacks the wet look while in the sun. it has a few swirls and holograms but not enough of either to worry. when apply m09 and m03 by hand it looks perfect. my problem is after 4 washes or so i have to do it all over again. i hand wash with a good soap and make sure all is clean while washing. maybe my wax is no good? anyhow i plan on a complete da polish soon. i cant find m80 on the site where do i look?

Meguiars has their new Ecommerce (click the link top middle part of home page), Auto Detailing Solutions has it, as well as MOL member Kevin Brown, there's another member and I think it's Nick Chapman, but not positive.....

Edit: I was incorrect, finally found the thread, it's MOL member RaskyR1 that may be in the works for a authorized dealer and great know how as well.

Wax shouldn't be a problem, how are you washing, two bucket with grit guards and rinsing the grime off of the mitt? Anytime you touch your paint you risk swirls. I use the two bucket method, lambs wool mitt and wash a panel, rinse mitt, wash another panel, rinse mitt, took a while to get in the groove but it helped.

when i wash i use only one bucket. my car is washed once a week with out fail..it never really gets dirty only dusty or rained on. i use a lot of soap to make great suds and i am very concious of dirt on wool wash mitt. i check the mitt every time before touching it to paint to make sure it is clean. i use a wash concentrate made by "wizards" all other soaps i have tried become flat quickly.

Remember, suds are not as important as the lubrication that the soap provides when properly diluted, which is part of the reason you use a car wash soap.

I agree, I don't even have suds when I wash, I fill the bucket up most of the way and drop my measuring cup into it and swirl it around and may get a few suds when I pull the hose out. I use 4oz and a smidge for about 4 gallons of water (1oz per gallon), I use Gold Class soap or NXT car wash currently.

If you use a second bucket, you will see what and how much junk is on your car that gets on your mitt.

Check this video out, I watched it several times:

How to wash a car - By none other than Mike Phillips!

I used to use dish soap and an old rag, then waxed in the sun with turtle wax (the cheapo 2 dollar wax), then wiped off with an old beach towel. I was STYLING!

                          RUNNING WITH SCISSORS!
                          RUNNING WITH SCISSORS!

Try the two bucket and see if it improves, the grit guards keeps the muck at the bottom of the bucket and not on your mitt.

I use M26 a lot and I love it. Unless your bottle is bad, not sure.....

I am in agreement here. If you go to the 2 bucket method you will be amazed at the grit in the rinse bucket. Lubricity is the key to safely lifting the dirt off of the finish. Try a test spot with the 80. If you are happy with the results you could go straight to your lsp.
