Hey Mike, I browsed through the whole NXT Generation Forum and I found one thread where you stated that NXT/PC/W8006 combo rocks.. But in your product/pad recommendation, it would be great to use either the W8006 and the W9006.

I already made the mistake of using a W8006 pad for my #81.. Would this be ok? As for the NXT, what difference will it make? Will the W8006 have more cleaning power than the W9006 from the NXT? (removing super minor swirls?)

    TIA

    Hi Bri,

    The NXT/W-8006/PC combo does rock!

The factors that determine which pad you select are determined by what you're trying to accomplish. You see, your choice of application material can alter the effect of your product and the results you produce.

An example would be using a cutting pad with with a non-abrasive pure polish, while the pure polish has no cleaning or abrading power itself, the pad does and this affects your end result.

Your application material can affect your products performance and your end-resuls.

You didn't make a mistake by using the W-8006 foam polishing pad with the #81 hand polish. This combination is very gentle to the finish. Using the W-9006 finishing pad with the #81 Hand Polish would just be more gentle because it is quite a bit softer that the W-8006 foam polishing pad.

And the W-8006 when used with the NXT Tech Wax will give the Tech Wax more cleaning power than when used with the W-9006 foam finishing pad.

The two lists of recommended products, pads and speeds for the G-100 and the Rotary buffer are recommended options, not concrete rules.

Basically, for cleaning and polishing the surface with the intended purpose of removing defects you would choose the W-8006 foam polishing pad, for final polishing or applying a wax, (but not removing any defects), then a softer, more gentle pad is preferred.

At our Saturday Detailing Clinics, when we teach product selection and technique for use with the G-100, (Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher), we show using cleaner/polishes with the W-8006 foam polishing pad, (#83, #82, #80 and #9), and pure polishes and waxes with the W-9006 finishing pad when we show a multi-step process.

Sometimes, we use the W-8006 foam polishing pad with a pure polish or a wax because we don't use a cleaner/polish first and we want a little cleaning action from our pad. There are lots of variables that determine or affect your pad, product and speed selection, that's why the charts in these two threads are recommendations, not concrete rules.

Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Porter Cable Dual Action Polisher

Product, Pad and Speed settings for the Rotary Buffer

    Does that help?

Thanks Mike. That does help a lot. So, the W8006 with the NXT would work great when you don't clean the paint with something like the #83 or #82 but a W9006 would be fine when I have cleaned the paint? Well, I can't change my polish pad anymore.. I've already used it.. I can still change my waxing pad though!

      Thanks for your detailed response.

Can't you wash out the pads with warm soapy water and let them air dry so you can switch products (i.e...cleaner to polish)????
