  • PC & Mikita rotary user. Flex XC 3401?

Hi guys. I still don't have a lot of confidence with my Makita. I guess it kind of scares me. In a good way I guess. I use my PC 95% of the time for paint correction and to apply sealants and waxes. I use my Makita very rarely. I guess I usually don't have a need for it. Other times, it would help but I hesitate. I've been hearing a lot about the Flex XC 3401. Is it worth it to get one? I mean, once I get more experience on "practice cars" with my rotary, I guess I won't need an "in between" buffer. What do you all think? A rotary/PC combo or the Flex? I say I should stick with the rotary and PC but I'd like opinions from you guys. Thanks.

No need for the 3401 in your case. Learn to use the Makita. Watch YouTube videos, read MOL, and just do everything you can to master it.

    Good Luck!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. I think I'll spend some time practicing on my wife's jeep. I have the basic fundamentals down pretty good. I'm sure with enough experience, I'll be more confident. I guess the rotary is intimidating because you can cause damage if your not carefully. I know I'm carefully and I use the correct products with the correct pad.

I'm in the same boat as you. I was all set on the Flex but then figured I would give the rotary another go. If I didn't already have the rotary I might have decided different.

With all the hype over the Flex, I wish people would look at the Dynabrade converter.

Good luck to the both of us. I agree, if I didn't have the rotary I probably would have gotten the Flex without much thought. People seem to really like it. I think we're both better off learning with out rotaries.

I was just looking at the Dynabrade converter. They have two different models but I don't know that the difference is. Dynabrade 61384 Dual Action Buffing Head and the Dynabrade 61379 Dual Action Buffing Head? The price difference is about $30 but the description is the same. Does Dynabrade still make these? They don't show it on the website but a bunch of on line stores are still selling it. How does it work? I read good things about it but it's heavy. No real big deal I guess. I don't do multiply cars in a day anyway. The power and feel of a rotary with the "safety" of a D.A sounds great to me. Also, the price is really good. I'd like to hear from people who have and have used these.

I just found th difference. One is a kit and the other is just the head. I think I want one!!!! How well does it work! I also found out you can only use 8" pads with it. That kind of stinks. I think the backing plate is part of the unit. Maybe that's why it can't be replaced.

I had one, but never used it and later sold it.

The backing plate isn't permanent and uses the same threads as the PC (5/16). So, any DA backing plate will work.

Yes, it is pretty heavy, but it is a solid chunk of aluminum.

Oh wow. A post a read on a Mustang car forum said it was perminent and coulsn't be removed. I prefer a smaller 6.5 pad. I asumed you used one before since you kind of recommended it. Would you recommend it?

                      61379 head only
61374 is the kit with head and backing plate and buffing pad.
61384 is the one the button to switch from orbital to rotary.
