  • Removing fine scratches

Hello - A few weeks ago we got my plymouth duster painted the same factory light green. After wetsanding and buffing the end results look great with an awsome shine. However when looking real close in the right light there are very fine scratches. Some spots worse than others. I am thinking it's from wetsanding. We went from 1200, 1500 and 2000 grit for the final. I tried "scratch X" a couple times but surprisingly no luck. It says on the container itself that if scratches are not removed then you have to use a buffer. What would be the best stuff to get to take these scratches out? I should also mention the compund we used when buffing the clear coat. After wetsanding we went with a evercoat compund that I had sitting in the garage then megs swirl remover 2.0 and megs show car glaze to top it off. Is there somthing else I should get to get all these fine scratches out? Any info is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

    Re: Removing fine scratches

    Sounds like Tracers

That's where a particle, (from the sand paper or some kind of dirt particle), became trapped between your sanding paper and the paint and you ground it into the paint while moving the paper back and forth.

It's a very frustrating problem and removing them is the same old issue of how hard it will be to remove them is dependent upon how deep the tracers are and how hard the paint is.

If you want to try to remove them by hand then get some M105 Ultra Cut Compound. If you want to try to remove them by re-compounding then get some M105 Ultra Cut Compound.
