  • Clearcote bubble issue!!!!from bodyshop

had my door on my truck recleared last year from a tree that landed on the colume and left a small dent so they repainted the colume only and recleared the whole door to match. and i noticed a small airbubble right above the keyless entry pad on the door . went back to body shop today and he said hes going to need to re clear the entire door!! anyone heard of this happening? i figued he could maybe just wetsand that area out ?

If the defect is throughout the clear coat, not just on the surface then sanding and buffing won't help.

A bubbled out area like the one in the picture cannot be effectively sanded out and buffed to a customer pleasing level.

Let them do the work and chances are pretty good they'll do it right this time as they now know you'll be inspecting closely.

It is pretty standard practice to reclear an entire panel rather than try to blend it. The color coat can often/usually be blended and then the panel recleared.

                      Just something to consider.
They messed up the first repair.
They messed up the second repair.
You still need to finish the job after their third try.
You may not be done yet. New paint shouldn't have "little dimples" in it.
You might want to keep all that in mind the next time you need to have any body work done.

My suggestion would be to find a new body shop. Hope they got everything resolved with the wet sand. Give it another look once the truck sits for a while.

                            Not to minimize your problem.

I had a similar situation several years ago. It took three trips back to the body shop to get it right and still it was not perfect.

Sometimes perfection is just not posssible. My perfectionism has caused lots of repaints and sometimes the problem only got worse.

I have always taken my vehicles to "top notch" shops. A couple of times I took my car or truck to a different shop "on my own dime". What a waste of time and money.

                            Good luck.

                            Tom
