  • Quik Detailer question

    Hello:
I am new here. I just purchased a new vehicle with clear coat silver exterior paint. A friend of mine told me that he uses "Quik Detailer - Mist & Wipe" every few days instead of actually washing his car. I think that he actually washed is about every week or so. What if my vehicle is dirty - will this stuff scratch it up? Is it reccommended to use Quik Detailer when the vehicle is a little dirty. So basically is this stuff like car wash in a bottle. Just trying to get a better understanding of its intended application. Thank you very much!

Here is what Meguiars site says about Quik Detailer:

The Missing Link Between Washing & Waxing Quik Detailer is the heart of the Quik Care System. It is the only product you'll usually need between washing and waxing. It can be used anywhere, anytime to remove fresh contaminants to help you keep that "just detailed" look. You just mist it on the surface and wipe off with a 100% cotton, terry cloth towel. You can use it for spot touch-ups or to "Quik Detail" all your paint surfaces. Many users keep a bottle in their car so they are prepared for any emergency. It's 100% safe on all clear coat Paints.

I only use it to remove very light dust, bird droppings or fresh bugs. Nothing more, its not going to replace washing.

so it would be ok to use daily or every other day to wipe the vehicle down after going to and from work if the vehicle did not get overly dirty?

I would only use it if it is mild dust on your car. If you drive on any freeways you might have more than that on your car. Then you would need to wash it.

It works very well for the very light dust and so on but I feel if the dust/dirt is too heavy or stuck on it might scratch the surface.

Another good use for Quik Detailer is just after a wash, thats when I use it the most... Once you dry your car mist and wipe with some Quik Detailer and it will eliminate water spots (On a dark color car this is very helpful) it will also make the paint shine a little more.

            Hi smudge,

            Welcome to Meguiar's Online !

Quik Detailer is for removing light dust, fingerprints, smudges and for the emergency removal of bird droppings before they etch your car's finish.

Where you live and the environment your car is exposed to will determine if you can use a quick detailer safely.

            Three examples:

Example 1 Our black Honda Pilot is a garage queen. That is it is always parked inside the garage unless we're driving it. After a day or two, it will have light dust on it and I will use Quik Detailer and a Meguiar's microfiber polishing cloth to wipe the finish down and remove the light dust. Often I will then apply a coat of NXT Spray Wax immediately afterwords to restore the just waxed look.

Example 2 - My 1973 Blazer is parked outside all of the time. It is quite windy and dusty where I live. If I wash the Blazer and leave it parked for one day, the next day it is still safe to wipe the finish down with a quick detailer. If I wait 2 days, enough dust will have accumulated on the finish that my common sense tells me that there is too much dust on the finish to remove safely without washing with water.

Example 3 Our Corporate office in Irvine is very close to the John Wayne Airport. If I wash my car in the morning and then park it at work in the parking lot for one work day, by the time I get off work there is a build-up of dust, (usually black), sitting on the surface. At this point I can safely wipe it off. If I let it go for another day, it will accumulate enough airborne pollution and dust that it would be safer to wash the car versus wipe it with a quick detailer. If I let this go over the course of a couple of nights, the night dew will actually moisten the dust and create a film. At this point, it is better to wash the car then to wipe this film off.

Of course, some of what you do or don't do will depend upon you, your preferences and your car's finish. Some people, like me with our brand new Pilot will be more careful with it's finish because it's black and brand new. The Blazer on the other hand is old and has an $800.00 Macco paint job that doesn't look very good close up. We are less concerned with the finish on the Blazer, and sometimes... less careful. It is our work truck.

Quick Detailer is an excellent mist & wipe detailing spray. Meguiar's Quik Detailer is also the Number One Selling Mist & Wipe product on the market and has been for years. It offers excellent lubricity which is what enables you to use it to remove loose, light dust.

A little experience using this product and a little common sense and you'll get the hang of knowing when to use it and when to use a normal car wash to clean your car.

            Hope this helps...
