  • cadillac Deville Leather question

I own a 2004 Cadillac Deville. I read that the dash and side door panels are leather. I thought they were vinyl. Are they leather? I can’t tell. The door panels and dash are soft but I can’t tell. I know the seats, stearin wheel and arm rest are leather. Thanks.

Where did you read it? I would assume the manual is correct, but maybe a dealership could help as well?

I read from Mike that Meguiar's leather cleaners/conditioners works fine on vinyl as well and have not had any problems with it so far.

        EDIT: Let me rephrase that:

I am sure I have read that leather products are ok for vinyl, but vinyl products are not good for leather.

True, I thought that in my peabrain but wanted to say if the car is leather and maybe some not, it's okay to clean vinyl with leather stuff.

Good catch Murr, thought it, didn't say it.

the leather in your car is coated leather meaning its clear coated so to speak so just use a spray bottle with water to spray it and wipe dry with cotton rag not micrifiber as microfiber is not good for leather same for vinyl.

Use this same same process for clenaing vinyl the coat.

Are you sure about this? I'm helping a friend detail his G35 (I'm still a rookie).

He's got mostly leather in the car. I'm planning on using the GC Leather Cleaner/Conditioner.

So is it okay to use the leather cleaner/conditioner on vinyl as well? [I ask just in case I accidentally do use the leather cleaner/conditioner on the vinyl]

For example, I'm not sure what kind of material is on the shifter. Maybe it's leather, maybe it's vinyl.

On a side note: my friend who loves his car has recently used 409 to clean the dashboard. I'm no detailing expert but I was shocked when he told me this.

                Re: cadillac Deville Leather question

There is a difference between "being OK, as in wont hurt if you make a mistake", and being the proper product for the job.

It is ok if someone were to use a leather conditioner on the fake leatherette stuff, its shouldnt damage it.

But to go and purposely use a leather product on vinyl is not correct. You really want to try and use the proper product for the job to the best of your knowledge.

The best thing would be to call a dealer, or Infinity customer care to find out for sure if possible.

I've got an 05 STS and the trim on the door panels and the sides of the interior handles are leather. I use GC cleaner/conditioner on them regularly without a problem. On the vinyl at the base of the door, if it gets a scuff mark from a shoe or something, a little rub with the same product removes it too (as well as the hand funk that gets on the plastic part of the interior handle). Doesn't hurt anything. When doing a full interior detail, I'll then use the appropriate specific product(s) on the vinyl surfaces.

What is the dash made of? I'm sure mines vinyl. I read somewhere on line that it's leather like some imports but I don't think that's true. As far as the manual goes, I can't find where it says what's leather and what's not. I'm assuming not leather so I will continue to use #40 which is my favorite dressing. I just wanted to make sure. I've read that vinyl dressings may be harsh for leather. Plus, the vinyl dressings will not have the necessary oils and conditioners needed to keep leather looking and staying nice.

I can't remember were. I did a quick google search and I ended up at a car forum somewhere. The manual doesn't say. It just says how to clean leather, vinyl etc.

Mine is a vinyl type product. I've used NXT Tech Protect and #40 (depending on my mood) with equally good results. I've never seen any GM car with a leather dash. For the most part it usually just gets a light wipe with a terry towel since I never drive with the windows down so things stay pretty clean.

I'm sure mine is also vinyl. My interior also stays real clean since my windows are also always closed and no one eats or drinks in it. I give the dash a quick wipe with a MF and dress everything every few weeks.
