  • need a better explanation here

I just got a quick question, I heard this a few times now, that a lot of polishes out there, especially the cheaper ones, are not actually polishes, well what are they? I mean I was under the understanding that a good polish has come abrasive elements in it that break down with use on a surface, while glazes are non-abrasive. SO do the cheap polishes are have no abrasive elements in them? Thanks for the explanation

There's no rules or regulations as to what a word has to mean in the automotive car wax industry.

Meguiar's has been around long before most if not all product currently available on the market and we've always made two type of polishes,

Pure Polishes - Non-abrasive, used to make paint look great or for museums or for fresh paint till it's recommended to apply wax.

Cleaner/Polishes - Part cleaner, (diminishing abrasives), part pure polish, (polishing oils like found in the pure polishes), to lubricate the surface during the abrading process and make the paint look good.

Don't want to speak for any other product on the market so you'll have to query any other company about their products and word definitions.

    This explains things more....

    What are you working on?
What are you trying to accomplish?

We're doing an extreme makeover on a antique boat today and we'll "need" both types of polishes and we'll use both types to do a correct job.

This was just out curiosity as I have been told by many people that cheaper or not so good quality polishes are not even polishes at all, but never said what they were, i understand there are 2 different polishes, and i have used both types, I'm just trying to figure out what these people were talking about (this was usually at car shows and such)

I got my answer through that link thanks : "There is a lot of confusion about the difference between a polish, and a wax. Many companies are marketing waxes and paint protectants as polishes and glazes and the terms have become almost interchangeable."

I think this is what they were referring to
