  • how much

So a friend of mine found out I was doing detailing on the side(for family) and now she wants her cars done... the problem I am having is how much do I charge her..

she wants a full detail(atleast I think its full in my opinion). wash/dry/clay/wax/clean windows for the exterior and for the interior she wants a vaccum/leather cleaned and protected/dash dressing...

so what should I charge her on a hummer and a 2005 c class benz..

      Re: how much

I don't see a problem (except some slight coding problem )

The MOL staff was offline yesterday as I think they had a Saturday class and the staff is off on Wednesdays.

You posted at night on a offline day and they come online between 7-8ish AM pacific time. So...most of us are up working and what not (except I'm off my regular job and now have a honey do list)

Basically, I'm sure someone will answer you pretty soon.

I've seen prices from say 40 for a wash to 1500 for a full detail.

You may want to elaborate on what process/products you will be using AND condition of cars then the guys/gals who do it regulary can give you a better quote. I charge a flat 200 bucks in my area as some think it's awful to pay more than 10 bucks for a detail. I have been educating people thus, have done 2 cars. I am doing a Dodge Ram here next week or so. I have had some say that my deal is a great deal (those who know what a full detail entails) so, I may up my price soon, but the price was for my Sergeant and one of my wife's co workers and the Excursion I did was for my wife's best friend. The Explorer I did was 200 bucks, I did 12 hours of work, 18 bucks an hour. Some say you should be worth 20-25 bucks an hour or more maybe. I fell short with the explorer but I won over a permanant customer and with proper maintanance on their part, the paint correction will be easier.

I know others will chime. There are a lot of threads on this too.

        Re: how much

For a full detail including clay I wouldnt charge less than $100-150.

I did a full size extended cap Chevy truck around a month ago. Did about the same on the inside as you and everything on the outside but I didnt clay. I waxed it with color-x then followed that with NXTv2. He was my neighbor so I asked $100 but he gave me a $40 tip.

It doesn't sound like he is doing any paint correction, just wash/clay/wax. I couldn't imagine paying 100 dollars for that. 100 dollars is at least a cleaner wax shine up job.

                Re: how much

If you are going to go with the standard 2 coats of wax, I would make the first one a cleaner/wax.

As far as price... If it is just this one person, it doesnt really matter. But if this may lead to more customers for you, you dont want to set your prices to low, then have to raise them for new customers.

You wouldn't pay $100 for a wash/clay/wax??? Thats a good $100-$150 job depending on how intense the clay session is.

                        Re: how much

I am sorry to interrupt but how can a "clay session be intense" IDK but all it is is QD and rub the clay QD rub the clay on surface and then fold to a clean and repeat how intense is that wow if someone paid me 300 bucks I will be there doing the WAsh, Clay, wax in a second. I wouldn't pay more then 50 bucks lol but I think that is because I prefer to do it myself. But seriously how can a clay baring have a intense session?

                          Re: how much

Sometimes claying your car can be intense if the surface has contaminants bonded all over it and your clay bar fills up quickly or you have to go to a more aggressive clay bar.

I've seen some pictures of clay bars and wondered what people drove through with their vehicles.

Our Neon was bad when I first detailed it. The Yukon was not near as bad.

I clayed a Ford Explorer and it the back tail gate was bad.

                            Re: how much

Yeah I can see how claying could be intense. I clayed our old neglected Jeep and every time it touched the paint, it turned green or black. It took SO many passes.

                              Re: how much

Have an F250 booked today for a wash, clay, and wax. No correction- I quoted $150 (it's a friend, but a regular customer as well).

There are plenty of guys around here that would EASILY charge $200-250 for a vehicle of that size for that type of detail.

Remember, to most people a "full detail" means wash, clay (if that), wax, wheels, tires, and vacuum the interior. Most people are willing to pay around $200~ for a large vehicle to get a "full" detail.

Now, throw paint correction into the mix and that's a whole new ball game
