  • Help guys , DETAILER blues !!

I have a serious problem guys, I was planning on buying a makita rotary & then buying menzerna polishes. After much research & reading, I found out that the menzerna products as with many others, seem to dust alot. I have a severe case of dry eyes & cannot get dust/polish in my eyes. I would rather "NOT" wear goggles to polish my cars, it will take all the fun out of it. I also read up some more regarding "dusty" polish can also be inhaled causing other health concerns. I am a construction foreman, and I deal with enough dust/debris at work as it is. My only reason for polishing cars is for my own cars & family /friends cars for free. I read up on the optimum polishes & some people like them somewhat, but others say that they have fillers and are not as good as menzerna polishes. So now my hopes of doing what I love to do ,"detailing" have been put on hold until i figure out what polish to use, and one that will work good WITHOUT ''dusting"........

I really appreciate anyone who has some input on this as it will help me tremendously !! I feel really bummed out now.

I haven’t used Optimum or Menzerna polishes so I can’t comment on them.

I can tell you that Meg’s polishes, used correctly, produce very little or no dust (you’re supposed to work them and remove them wet).

Most waxes are supposed to be allowed to dry on the surface before removal so there’ll be some dusting. But you’re supposed to apply them really, really, really thin so the amount of dust can be fairly small.

Yes as stated above most of Meguiar products should not be allowed to dry other than wax. The cleaners polishes and others work best when not allowed to dry. Also, as stated wax should be a very very thin layer so there will be very little dust.

        my take,
Some polishes do dust more than others, whether it's due to using too much product, or not keeping the pad clean, but some products do dust more than others. I occasionally use Optimum polishes as I notice they have a long work time and hardly ever dust, so that might something to try. I've gone back to mainly using Meguiars polishes due to the results I get from using them. I also bought a pad washer and clean the pad after every panel when polishing or compounding and that helps.

I have heard the Optimum and Merzerna polishes are very good products in their own right but do tend to produce dust. If you want to stick with Mequiars try (D151) Paint Reconditioning Creme . It is multi faceted, low dusting and can change its paint correcting abilities with different pads. Low dusting is a strong priority for me.
