  • Hi Tech Magna Sponge?

I recently came across this on the ADS website:

It is supposed to redefine the use of clay bars?

Have any of you used this or heard anything about it? I did a search and I couldn't find a single thing here on the MOL boards.

It even claims that it can be used up to 30 times! Now I know that is a guesstimation...but still, for 12$, that doesn't sound too bad.

I have heard of this and similiar products. Basically, they do seem to work, provided that you follow the instructions and make sure that the sponge is cleaned periodically during the "clay" job to prevent swirls.

There are some threads on this forum about this product, probably need just the right search term...

Some people like them some don't, they made a lot of buzz when they first came out but you don't hear or read much talk about them since then, at least that I notice.

Someone brought one to a meguiars road class I went to in indy around a year ago. I tried it out and it seems to do pretty good I thought. Not sure how it would tackle tar or heavy tree sap.

I know it takes off rail dust (I hate Wisconsin winters).

I'll keep searchin mike. If you come across any before I do, please send them my way?

Well tonight I went out and got the Smooth Surface Kit from wal mart for 15$, not too bad. I am using it on my brothers Mach 1 that had some pretty bad BSC, but this stuff works GREAT! I couldn't imagine a better product! It took them right off and the made finish feel as smooth as glass. Even though it is 12 45 am, my brother is in the garage still claying it and loving every minute of it.

                Thanks for the responses!

                    Re: Hi Tech Magna Sponge?

I have these sponges and yes, they do work well, but they can be more aggressive than the regular clay depending on the pressure you apply. I usually get a little scuffing in the clear when I use one, but If I know I am going to be machine polishing this car anyways due to being swirled and scratched then it's not a big deal. They do save me some time as a bucket of clean suds and this thing and I can go around and rinse off a car quickly. Now if I am doing a car with the paint in good shape or softer paint, then I will opt. for clay.

Just make sure you keep surface wet and clean, use plenty of suds and rinse often.

                    Does that make sense?

                    Tom
