  • Any thoughts on polycharger?

I know (loosely) that it is supposed to be a "wax booster" but I want to know how or if it even works?

Has anyone tried it or tried it in conjunction with any of the Meg's waxes or sealants? It claims to make your wax last 4 times longer... that is a pretty bold claim, no?

I mean, if I'm getting 3 months out of my garage parked car with NXT am I going to get 1 year with polycharger? Sounds a bit like hype if you ask me, but I've never tried it.

The few waxes I Polycharged seemed to improve in slickness and durability. Lasting 4 times longer is a bit optimistic, but twice as long is doable.

Use UQD and you can get 6 months out of NXT 2.0...so my tests have shown so far. And really after 6 months, the beading is just starting to diminish which doesn't mean the paint isn't protected.

So Ryan, are you saying UQD is a "polycharger" or works like it?

        Alfisti,

Does it work with all waxes? If so, why wouldn't everyone be jumping at this stuff? Sounds awfully tempting!

          Re: Any thoughts on polycharger?

I am saying it works like it, here is the description from meguiars.com.

The most advanced high bead and deep gloss spray detailer! Meguiar’s®, the company that brought car enthusiasts the world’s first spray detailer, now introduces a revolutionary mist and wipe product that works like a spray detailer and enhances wax protection. This totally unique formula represents a significant breakthrough in technology that has even our eyes popping! Through the use of new Hydrophobic Polymer Technology™, Meguiar’s has created a spray detailer that actually repels water, withstands multiple car washes, and adds additional protection to your finish. The secret lies in the high level of surface tension created when these revolutionary polymers react. The result is a slicker, darker surface and incredible water beading! You will feel your towel almost float across the surface. The gentle, high lubricity formula is safe on all paint types including the latest clear coats and can be used daily to remove loose contaminants, dust and grime to keep your car looking its absolute best. It’s so easy, you can detail a full size car in less than 10 minutes!

I bolded the parts that I think explain how it works like Polycharger.

Now here is the description of Polycharger, according to http://www.autopia-carcare.com/polycharger.html:
          • Polycharger is like a shot of steroids for most car wax products.
          • Your car's wax protection and shine will last four times longer!
          • Better than any dealer applied paint sealant treatment at a fraction of the cost!
          • It's not a car wax, it's a car wax booster that mixes with your favorite car wax products!
          • Will not wash off like ordinary waxes. Your car will shine and bead water like crazy for months!

To me, it sounds very similar to the description of UQD. And for $40 vs. $10, I think the difference is pretty clear.

It works with *most* waxes, both water-based and PD-based, but you'll need to use correct version for your wax. I know it works with NXT because I've tried it. If you jump on Polycharger website there should be a list showing which waxes have been tested with it.

            a) Not well known
            b) Costs extra money
            c) A competitors brand
            d) Requires some mixing
            e) Mixed portion must be used up as it won't keep
            f) Many wax too often to justify using it

Personally, none of the above have dissuaded me from getting a few boxes of it. I think it's a great product that allows you to get the most out of the waxes chemistry.

See now I'm trying to save you money so you can go buy more trim protectants.

UQD adds a layer of product everytime you apply it. It requires multiple re-application. Polycharger enhances the waxes own chemistry from the beginning.

This is especially useful when you wax someone elses car (customer or friends, etc) and aren't in a position to re-apply a product to the car.

Different products for different uses. Both very good.
