  • Which product should I use?

Curious as to what you think will be the best for the exterior plastic/rubber portions of my wife's CR-V (a lot of black rubber/plastic on the exterior).

I the past I have used Hyperdressing and Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant but I'm thinking of trying one of the following:

    1. All Season Dressing

    2. #40

    3. Gold Class Trim Detailer

What are the pros and cons for each.

Here is an image of what the CR-V looks like and the areas I am talking about:

I like how the HD worked, not so keen on the Natural Shine but I'm looking for something new, so I'm open to your thoughts on these products. Thanks.

    3fitty,

If you are looking for something that will last a long time I would suggest the ASD. I have used it on my wife's expedition on all of the exterior plastic pieces with great success. If you put it on and leave it alone it will remain fairly glossy if you let it set in for a few minutes(20-30 minutes) then buff off the remaining product it will leave more of a satin finish. I have no experience with 40 orthe gold class trim detailer. my vote is for the ASD.

I haven't tried ASD but I have used the other two quite a bit. I'm getting good results with GCTD for exterior vinyl and rubber. It lasts longer.

#40 & GCTD both look great on exterior vinyl but the GCTD will last longer. Besides I think #40 is really meant for the interior which is what I use it for these days. The downside to GCTD is the small bottle.

Re: Which product should I use?

Right now I use the quick interior detailer for all my interior (except leather) and I like how it works and I knew 40 was more of an interior but had read that some were using it on the exterior and liked it... hence the question.

I like the idea that the GCTD lasts long. I was probably (initially leaning) towards the ASD and might end up getting both to see which I like better.

Keep posting your experiences with each though... would love to hear more.

I've always used ASD on exterior plastic and have been happy with it. The only time I had a problem was when I didn't do a good job wiping the excess off and it rained. It left streaking along the body panel.

Re: Which product should I use?

Personally, I really like using #40 on my exterior rubber and plastic.

When I started getting into detailing my car I was unaware that masking off these parts would be best when waxing and so forth, so needless to say I HAD a lot of white residue on these parts and I had no idea how to get it off.

After months of this white residue being on the trim I used just a little bit of #40 with a MF and it came off with ONE application.

I am contemplating getting a gallon of #40 because I use it for the interior quite frequently (at least once a week for a thorough wipe down), and also for it's exterior application. Using one product for all of it will cut down on price and number of products that you have...

However, #40 doesn't give a really high gloss look, so if that is what you are looking for, then maybe using another product might help. I have yet to use anything other than #40.

            Just my experience

I have to vote # 40. I have never used the GCQD but i'm sure it works great. I usually tape off close to where I apply to keep it from getting on the paint. If you do get some on the paint, just use you window cleaner product to remove. I use 20/20 right now. I believe # 40 last longer if you apply - let it dry and then remove excess. That has worked great for me.

Re: Which product should I use?

Out of all those, I would choose Gold Class Trim Detailer. It will protect the best, last the longest and in my opinion look the best. #40 will work, but it is intended for Vinyl and Rubber and will not last as long as ASD or Trim Detailer. ASD will look great and be a quick and easy application, but I don't get that long lasting shine that I do with Trim Detailer.

And since the car is a lighter color, having deep, dark colored trim really makes the paint appear darker and shinier, so again Gold Class Trim Detailer works best there.

Well I like using the asd on the exterior trim. To me it lasts a very long time.
