  • How to remove the Factory wax

I would like to know what is the proper way to remove the wax (Brownish or yellowish color)that comes on brand new cars coming out from the factory.

Do I only use the Body Solvent, rinse it, and then I use (26) Hi Tech Yellow wax?

    TIA

We're guessing you mean the protective coating sometimes used to protect a new car in transit and not a coat of a regular car wax?

There's a huge difference in these two types of products and thus they removed differently, so could you please confirm what you're trying to remove?

    A transit coating?
    or
A normal coat of car wax?

Not sure if my Dodge Neon ('05) had it, but it needed a good scrubbing then a clay bar and I sure removed a ton of overspray and grime from that puppy. The rear spoiler was almost as bad as the rest of the car and it was on top of the spoiler only! I scrubbed with Gold Class car wash and clay with Smooth Surface clay.

The coating on German imorts is called Cosmoline. The dealer gets it off the exterior body, but tend to leave some under the hood.

            Is this a BMW?

I know on the newer bimmers we have they drip 'cosmos' (that is what we call it) from the body panels and it looks like a yellowish thick goo. It will continue to drip down for some time, and after every wash needs to be wiped off for a while. Only solution I was ever to possibly think of would be to take some pressurized water from either the hose or something and spray the stuff out, but considering it is residing in between drip off holds inside body panels, it seems next to impossible.

If it is cosmoline, I heard my dad talk about cleaning it off of weapons during WW2. He said the only way they could get it off was with kerosene or gasoline. That was in the early 1940's and there are a lot of new solvents out now, but it must have been some pretty tough stuff.

If it's a GM car and I say this without seeing it. I've worked at a dealership when the factory was applying this to Camaro's. This is what I would do just peel it off the car. And what you will have left is ghost lines around the boarders of the car. Then wipe the lines off with prep clean and your done. Just grab it and tear it off. You will find X-14 that it's actually fun to take off. Just like peeling elmer's glue off your hand. Actually you should take a pic of it so we can be sure of what it is.

                        OK here we go

Any ways I made a test by sprying Body solvent and wiped it off, then I used Hi tech #26

                        It worked out well.

                        Any input will be appreciate
