  • What Kind of Tape are You using?

I recently purchased some more tape because my green 3m tape fell on the floor of the garage. I bought some scotts automotive tape as replacments. I use it more so to cover the paint next to my mud flaps to keep the dressing off the paint. I didn't like the way this tape bends so I'm looking for a better product. I just noticed from reading a previous post that when i asked Mike about products needed to start a business he put in Painters Tape which I didn't catch until now. So that said let me have it!

Most people use the Scotch/3M blue painters tape you can find at home stores. Stay away from the other brands, none seem to work as good.

thanks I have go get some because this new tape was the same way. It's ok in a straight line but if I turn the tape to shape a curved angle it twist and I have to start over.

                I like the green 233+ Scotch Performance Masking Tape the best. It's a little harder to find but some sizes can be found at auto parts stores. Comes in - 1/8" - 1/4" - 1/2" - 3/4" - 1" - 1-1/2" - 2"- 3" sizes.

The only sizes I don't have is the 1/8" and 3". The 1/4" size is a great size to have. I ordered on-line the last time I needed some.

At the local Wal-Mart they have "Duck Brand" painters tape. Its about 0.75 cheaper per role then the 3m. I compared it to the 3m and found no appreciable difference.

Here is a little tip that I use when going around curves like sunroofs and doors. If you open the sunroof and doors you can go around the edge without the tape twisting on you. You can even open the trunk lid and tape around the bottom of the rear window.

Kind of like I did here:

                    Hope it helps a little

I use 3M blue painters tape. It's fairly cheap. The green stuff is a little too expensive. Blue works like a charm for me everytime.

You should be able to get the green tape (+233 3M) a little cheaper on-line than you can driving down to your local Home Depot or whatever for the blue tape (3M painters tape).

                          Example:
                          At my Home Depot = 3/4" 3M blue painters tape = $3.26 a roll = Let’s say 12 rolls plus tax = $42.35

Ebay = 12 rolls of 3/4" 3M +233 green tape = $33.99 or best offer (that’s with shipping to my door) I just love to save money and gas!

Besides, I can never find the 1/2" or 1/4" sizes locally in either blue or green, and they’re my favorite sizes to have.

                          Hope that helps someone.......

BTW, you can just do a search on Ebay for +233 green tape and find a number of sellers.

Hey thanks a lot and I like the tip about opening doors. I was using it to do my mudflaps instead of removing the tire and unscrewing each 1. Well only the back but the front would not be a problem.
