  • Negative results on white paint

I have a white Toyota Tundra with single stage paint. I have tried DC 1, 2 and colorX on the vehicle with little to no visible improvement. I have been using the orange and white DAS pads on the UDM.

I'm thinking the above products aren't strong enough to cut through the oxidation and non-clear coat paint. What do people here recommend my next plan of action? I have read Mike's article on white paint. The truck looks faily good as long as there is no sunlight hitting it. When the sun hits the vehicle, there is nothing but a cloudy, swirly mess.

    thanks.

    Those are rather mild products.

The next step up would be #80 Speed Glaze.

However, it also sounds like you may be using cutting pads? Those could be leaving scouring on the finish also.

I had similar issues over the weekend with white single stage on an older Mustang. Here's the thread:

I found it really liked a purple foamed wool pad with D151. I tried 83 and 80 with polishing pads and they just clouded the paint.

The purple foamed wool worked pretty good on a flex, not sure how it would behave on a UDM.

      Good luck!

        thanks.

        Does it look like this?

Here's a pictures of Tim's, (aka forum member svt150tim), new-to-him Ford Lightning with a factory clear coat finish over white basecoat.

Here's what the finish looks like all over the the entire truck,

        Horrendous Swirls

Here are the results after 10 minutes of compounding using #84 Compound Power Cleaner with a W-7006 foam cutting pad on about 1800 rpm.

We tried to remove the cobweb-effect using the G-100 with a W-8006 polishing pad and some #83 DACP but it had no visible effect. The clear coat finish on this truck is as hard as glass, the only way to remove the swirls in the finish is to machine compound with a rotary buffer.

The point is, there is only so much a dual action polisher like the Meguiar's G-100 can do, once you reach it's limit, and it's not removing the defect, then it's time to substitute a rotary buffer or if you don't own a rotary buffer, and/or the skills to operate one correctly then you will need to take your car to a professional who is trained and experienced with the proper use of the rotary buffer.

I'll try the Megs 8006 and 9006 pads and see if there is a change. Will the D151 cut through the oxidation relatively easily or would my best choice be 80 or 83? Thanks for the replies. Also will the Megs pads fit on the UDM?

D151 is about as aggressive as M83, it's really a case of trying each product to see which one works the best.

I find when using a PC a smaller pad is better. A 5.5" pad is what I use, I will be ordering some 4" pads soon to see if they work as I am told they would.
