Re: How to remove Bird Dropping with 105 and rotary?
Hi . Just to chime in. Like Mike says, always start on least aggressive method. 105 is a very powerful compound. I believe doodoo etch can be removed by a less powerful product say DACP. I tried on my car and it worked. Then again, I dont know the type of paint your working on.
Post pictures might help.

You mean,
How to remove the "etching" left by a bird dropping
Correct?
1. Wash or wipe panel clean
2. Apply a strip of M105 to the affected panel and pick up you bead of product like shown in the how to videos on using the rotary buffer.
3. After picking up your bead of product, lay your pad flat and buff the section for 6 to 10 slow moving, overlapping passes with just a little more than the weight of the machine.
4. Stop buffing, wipe the panel clean and inspect your results. If the bird dropping etching is removed then proceed to polish and wax, if it's not then repeat until it's removed.
Use common sense and don't buff so long that you buff through the clear coat because the etching was that deep.

Thanks Tim for your input. I agree by using least aggresive method, but i want to learn more hoe to remove bird etching.

Yes Mike, etching. Thank you for correcting me and thank you for your tips. I will learn more about the steps that you give me.
I only have No.4, 83, 82, 80, 20 and 26. I asked my friend in Meguiar's Indonesia for giving me a bit sample of 105. For consumer line product i do have clay kit, DC1-2, Scratch X, and UQD. For pads, i have w8006, LC white and orange. I also have spot remover pad and 3" backing plate.
Re: How to remove Bird Dropping with 105 and rotary?
To tell the truth... the M105 is easy to control, when you want to remove paint buff, when you want to stop, stop buffing. It's not like any previous product on the market whether it be ours or the competitors and the results are simply amazing.
Joe told me one time he hated this product because it was going to put him out of business... his reasoning? Because it just too easy to get great results even without a lot of experience. He's right. Just buffing with M105 and a wool pad will put out better results than most body shops are currently putting out even with more steps... (It's really that good)
As long as you are careful, take your time, focus on the task at hand it's a very easy compound to use for even a beginner. It's versatile enough to remove light defects quickly by machine as well as remove serious or deep defects quickly by machine simply by adjusting only your downward pressure, number of passes and number of applications.
On a personal note...
The learning curve for M105 is more gradual than it is for any other compound I've ever used, so if you're new to the rotary buffer there's a balance between using the least aggressive product to get the job done and using a product that's fairly Bubba-proof and easy to use. This is where this new technology is going to blur the line so to speak, it's just to easy to use and gives you such darn good results that when you see it yourself and understand what it is you're looking at you'll be blown away.
Another great new feature is that you can use it by hand to remove below surface defects and it works amazingly fast while leaving behind a very nice finish perfect for final polishing or even applying wax over as the next step.
We removed this bird dropping etching in less than 2 minutes by HAND in front of about 25 live people at one of our Saturday Classes and M105 makes it look even easy to do as compared to using ScratchX to do the same thing.
Here's some before & after pictures of two bird dropping etchings we removed by HAND
The first one we removed by hand using M105 Ultra Cut Compound, the second one we removed by hand using ScratchX.
The results were both amazing but what most people found interesting was the M105 removed 99.9% of the defect with one application while ScratchX removed about 95% of the defect with 3 applications.
ScratchX also required more "Passion behind the pad" for each application while M105 required some passion to engage the product with the paint but nowhere near as much pressure or as much time.
First we'll frame up the shot so you can see the car and where the bird dropping etchings were. The etching being pointed to is the one we removed using M105 and just to the left of that spot is the bird dropping etching we removed using ScratchX
Except for the first picture, all the rest are original photos, no touch-up work at all was done to them. Some were cropped and resized but that's just so they will fit on your monitor.
The finish overall is swirled-out but Bob's going to put his new learned skills and knowledge to work to restore a show car finish for his wife!
M105 Before
M105 After
ScratchX Before
ScratchX After
Both work if you work them but it was very apparent that for removing below surface defects by hand M105 Ultra Cut Compound was the hands-down winner.
Thanks for letting us demonstrate on your wife's car Bob!
So machine buffing with M105 is not only as effective and more effective than working by hand for most applications, it's also versatile in that you can use it by hand and get phenomenal results.
Giver a try and let us know how it goes...

Re: How to remove Bird Dropping with 105 and rotary?
Ok Mike, thank you so much, that is the link what i have been looking for. I will give it a try by using Scratch X first on my car. And i will use 105 on my customer car to see the differences. I will upload the photos later.
I am glad Meguiar's can produce such a great product as 105. Long live Meguiar's...
Very similar to my case. But judging from the pics, mine is even worse. Etch in quite deep.
So what I did, wetsand(2k-3k)-compound(95) - polish(83) - finish(80/82) - sealant/wax(21 2.0/nxt2.0). Compound, polish via rotary. Wax by hand.
BTW, why compound then scratch x again. Is it the same purpose of removing bonded contaminants?
Happy Testing !
Tim
I used 2000 grit, then using old school compound from TW (polishing compound). The reason i used scratch x again is to remove minor scratch from compounding and gives gloss to the panel. Maybe i should use rotary with spot remover and 105. My friend at Meguiar's Indonesia is very generous want to give sample for me. Tonight i will try it again.
