  • Polishing after body work.

My sister's Galant just had a new bumper put on, and since she's not one of "us" I told her I would detail the car after she had the work done on the car. I asked when would be a good time for her to come over but she said this,

    Does this make any sense?

Would it be safe to put a coat of wax on it (because technically, there shouldn't be any swirls on a freshly painted bumper), or should I wait the 30 days?

I believe that a freshly painted surface should be left unwaxed to help in the outgassing process. Paint needs to 'breath out' the chemicals in them. Try to find out the type of paint being laid on it and see the manufactures recommendation. If thats not possible then I guess just leaving it for 1-3 months to ensure its fully dry n settled (my guess only)

Polishing should be ok but I usually go for a soft cleaner/polish like DC1&DC2.

    Hope this helps.

#80 does have a paintable protective poymer in it.... nothing like a wax, but at least it is a little something if you have any around.

Claying is also a reasonable idea to remove any overspray.
