  • Help detailing '97 civic

    Hey guys,

I've been doing some reading and finally decided to try this stuff out on my own. Here's my car:

Overview. Note the different shades of black on the front quarter panel.

Close up of the different shades.

Close up of the hood. Bird poop etching, clear coat damage, etc.

Other side of car, note the really dirty rims.

I was thinking about getting a PC 7424 along with this kit from Amazon:

    amazon.com/Meguiars-Complete-Car-Care-Kit/dp/B0012ZEZ8A/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1214774362&sr=8-2

Basically, I'm not looking for it to be perfect, but do want it looking better. I want to try to match up those panels in the second picture as best I can if that's even possible. Do you guys think I can get some good results with just ScratchX or will I need something M80?

    Thanks!

ScratchX should clear up the clear coat evenly around the car to give your finish a uniform appearance but if you're going to invest in a PC then maybe get some more PC specific products like the M80 Speed Glaze and some foam polishing pads.

The G110 has more power which is helpful for removing swirls but if you just want to do light cleaning then the PC will work good for this.

There's this deal and others on the Internet...

I personally recommend the G110. I recently purchased it along with an entire arsenal of Meguiars professional products. I know it may be hard to justify spending $200-$300 on a "one time use" for your own car but trust me. Once you master the G110 on your car you'll end up doing other cars on the side for some $$$. It's a win/win situation. So, see if you can pick up the G110 pack (the link in Mike's post) along with some polishes, waxes, etc. and you'll be set. Just my two cents...

The money is well spent getting a G11o. You will be asked to do others. Charge what you feel it is worth and your hobby pays for itself. It is a win, win deal. Good luck.

Invest on a G110, it's a time saver and the results are far better than doing the job by hand.
